Back in 1999 I went to an auction and bought several hundred collector plates including Gone With the Wind. I sold them all at over $100 each and only paid $10 each average.
In 2001 went to an auction that had 75 Gone with the Wind plates - all the sets including the original one. I paid $15 each for them and just barely made my money back. If it hadn't been for the original set I would have lost several hundred. What a waste of time and money.
Since then, I have learned to research how everything is doing at the minute of sale...not 2 years ago

Can I interest you in 19,842 Original Issue Star Wars Episode I - Phantom Menace Posters? They come packaged in indiviudal wrappers.
The shipping is a bit much - since they weigh about 1800 pounds in total and they come in 120 cases - measuring about 3-feet x 2-feet x 1-foot each.
Spent $400 for all of them - including shipping. Was able to sell a few so far, but not the enthusastic reception I had hoped for. Now, whenever my wife thinks I'm about to do something else stupid, all she has to do is say: "Posters...?"
We are turning those lemons into lemonade thanks to the purchase of a powerful shredder. If you buy from us (in the foreseable future) you'll get your item packed with some shredded - very colorful - packing materials...

Okay, with nary a clue, I bought some RRPC Roseville USA, Pottery.
Turns out RRPC is that other Roseville Pottery Company. Robinson something-or-other (I forget). But I do see now some are buying this pottery as well. But what a bust to get home and find that its not theRoseville Pottery, hahahha!!
