I finally gave in and purchased a 128 MB memory stick for my Sony camera. I got tired of re-formating all those floppies.

I love it. It is fast, easy to connect to the computer and works great.

My question is: How long will it last? Or rather how many times can it be re-formatted and re-used? Anyone had one for a year or so and have any problems?

I usually take the pics for all my auctions on one day and then spend the rest of the week listing them so I do take several hundred at a time. I would like to erase it each week and start over but wondered if I should just keep using it till it is full and then re-format it to save on the wear and tear.

Lindajean,

I've had both a 128 and 256MB flash card (similar to your "memory stick" since April 2002. It's been fine.

There are no moving parts in the stick and thus, nothing to wear out.

I've had mine for several years. Only reformatted once. Since my PC
treats the memory as a hard drive when I have it in the USB adapter/reader
I just move the pics I want to keep to other media just like moving a file.

Thanks. I didn't even think about just moving the files. My computer also treats the memory stick as a separate hard drive. That way I don't have to reformat.

Linda - out of curiosity - why did you have to reformat "all those floppies"?

I purchased a Mavica for ebay use a couple months ago, I have taken easily 500 photos. I have used the same 5 disks the whole time, never have I had to reformat one.

I reformat my floppies while they are in my computer. I don't like to use the delete in the Mavica because it leaves the little number tags on the disk and takes up space.

Also, I take about 500 a week so mine gets a lot of wear and tear.

LInda - I honestly think you were doing much more work than you needed. If you "Select All", "Move To Trash" and "Empty Trash" it should wipe your disk completely. I've had zip disks that I have used repeated for years that have never been reformated.
