Recently I got a money order from Malaysia! My bank (TCF) siad they would charge me $15.00 to process it- luckily in this case, it was redeemable through Citibank, so she said it wasn''t a foreign itme of tender after all, She was pretty happy about that, to give her credit.
But now I have a check (in $US) coming from the UK. I am thinking I can send it to my sister, who has an account with Bank of America, once we find out what their policy is- Which got me wondering- Which of us accepts overseas sales, and how do we each handle them? Whos banks charge, and which banks are the most liberal about foriegn tender? I am expecting that this item will sell about 50% to the UK- The last one I sold went to Italy. But that seller actually sent American greenbacks, cash, in a registered letter.

after a bad experience I quit selling outside the US as far as my TOS says. If emailed by someone outside the country, I usually say yes. I tell them yes if payment is made through cash (at their risk), or Bidpay money order. I would never, ever accept a check from anywhere outside the country and am antsy about those.

I have a bad check for a whopping $12.49 taped to my computer desk. Returned for NSF and written by a reputable designing firm in New York. They will not answer any emails after offering to send a replacement check (which I said no to).

hum... I wasn't worried about the malaysian money order, oddly enough-Hermetic scholars buying wands and Athames aren't usually ripoff artists. This one, though is bound to be from a young guy- it's that vintage Rock Poster, and it went for a nice price, after a nice bidding war, and I'm going to offer one as a second chance to the other guy.
So he can pay via bidbay from the UK? I didn't know that.

with bidpay he can use his credit card to send you a western union money order,he has to pay bidpay a fee.
cit2it has made some improvement to its internet service,he/you can send money in us or foreign currencies for a 10 dollars fee.there is some minimum requirement though, also you need to verify your bank account.

We always ask for a Money order in US dollars payable through a US bank.

This is generally not a problem for most Europeans, especially in Britain, they just have to ask for it and it costs nothing extra.

BTW $15 is cheep for foreign checks, many banks change $50.

If you sell inexpensive items you may want to consider accepting cash, I'll take any paper money, not coins (I live in Las Vegas and the Casinos will change any paper money for no fee) But most Europeans can get US dollars with no problem. Euro's are bit of a problem since the smallest paper is a 5 (approx $5.50US) so they end up paying you a bit extra when they round up. You can get conversion rates here: http://www.xe.net/ucc/

Hey, i have no problem with cash! LOL
I've gotten cash a couple times now, once from Germany and once from Italy. I didn't realise it was so common.
$50.00 for a foreign check?! Even though it's written in US dollars? WOW!
You know- I tried twice to sign up with c2it. I'm pretty internet savvy, I think- and I bollocksed it both times. I decided that if it was that hard for me to sign up, it would be impossible for some of my buyers. So I don't offer c2it.

Most of mine have been cash but I have taken PayPal. So far (knock on wood)I have had no problems. Recently a PayPal payment from Hong Kong. Everything went smooth.

I as well use TCF and have yet to get charged for a check like that. Try a different teller or get someone with authority to confirm it for you.

Only other thing I can think of is that check really wasn't drawn on a true international account and was on an account from Malaysia.
