Hi all --- does anyone know what "kind" of helmet this is and how I can title or give good descrip? --- it IS old --- the long hair pony tail on it definitely seem to be like horse hair [dyed] or something ... hopefully vintage military experts 'round here?

Thank you with any help you can give me --- this has been stumping me -- checked a few old milit./armor type sites and I still don't know what the heck to call this.

I know I've seen helmets like that in old war movies. It's a bear trying to finding one on the Net though. It could be British or Prussian or German or a bunch of other countries. You should do well with it on ebay.

The only thing I know is I don't think its American. It also looks like a badge or something is missing off the front and I don't think the red hair is original. I am only guessing when I say maybe its Polish or German ??? That sun burst kind of rings a bell with me from a long time ago. Good Luck.

Its British, If I recall its the royal horse guard. Check out the turn of the century dragoons.

Here is a link to some great info.

Lord Tomwii Tennyson, thank you! ... that's an avenue to explore ...
"Half a league, half a league ...
onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred."

Trai; thank YOU ... i see 'some' similarities in some of those i found images of, [but not till after the lead you gave me]

this is pretty beat up, but somebody probably collects these things ... guess i'll have to open my the ebay borders and accept intl. bidders for this one.

g'mornin' tomwii

yes, kinda sorta .. except the hair doesn't stand up as tall as on those ...

In some of the further googling i did this morn, i do see they use the word "pith" to describe this general 'shape' of helmet ... pith pith pith ... [that's a fun word]
