Just bought an item and the seller strongly prefers Vendio Checkout. I haven't done a homework assignment in 38 years and I am not going to start back now.
If the seller prefers me to use any checkout he'll have to limit the form that needs to be filled out to less than a page.

I know I am in the minority here, but I couldn't agree more. As long as the words "prefer" are in there (ignoring strongly) I just do it my way.

If it is "must" I don't bid.

99% of my customers use the Vendio check out or the Vendio Pay button on the closed eBay auction page. Have very little problems with it & it gives them a sales confirmation page they can mail with payment.

Auction description: No orders are shipped without this checkout even if you use Paypal. This allows me to manage your order, record your payment and ship it ASAP!! Thanks!!
No orders are processed unless you complete the SIMPLE checkout, even if you pay via Paypal.

Highlighting SIMPLE is a sick joke. Obviously his time ain't worth as much as mine.
His auction had the PAY NOW button,we'll see what happens

Some of those simple checkouts can take 5 minutes or longer. If I can spot a 'mandatory checkout' clause in the seller's TOS I will generally avoid bidding on those auctions.

I have done the Vendio checkout. It takes less than a minute and if you choose, and only if you choose, it will redirect you to paypal at the end.

1,2,3 and done. quicker than typing an email to the seller.

If it's that SIMPLE why don't the seller fill it out themselves using the Paypal info ??

Answer : Because it ain't.

Actually, as a long time eBay buyer, I can say that Vendio has one of the easiest checkouts. Plus, when the seller has it set right, I don't have to email them wondering how much the shipping will be and have to deal with the back and forths on that. Vendio checkout is my address, how I want to pay and how I want to ship.

I have seen some checkouts that are really bad.

Oh, and as a seller, I do ask that the person does the Vendio checkout, and yes, I have filled it out for them, but I warn them that I will not be held responsible for any spelling errors that occur while I switch back and forth from their email to the checkout.

the only way i would need to demand checkout, is if i had 1,000 listings going all the time.

The Andale checkout the the alltime worst. I bet even a lawyer would have a tough time filling it out.

I don't run 1,000 auctions but I do have a separate business I'm trying to get off the ground (now possibly two), a house to keep straight, etc. I just prefer to make sure that everything stays organized so no one drops the ball.

And I agree about the Andale one. I did it a while ago and it was goofy. Haven't tried it recently though so maybe they made updates.

I just turned on the vendio checkout as ebay wasn't showing paypal in my options and I was getting pissy letters from buyers.
Clive, old boy, what do you suggest I do to make the Vendio experience as easy as possible for my customers?
I am serious about this question really.

Dragonmom - I typed into the little email with the link that I tried many different checkouts before settling on one that was easiest for the buyer and seller. I also explain that By using the checkout, it helps keep everything organized so the whole transaction is quick and easy so they get their stuff right away. Also, point out the fact that they get a receipt at the end to print out or include with m.o. payments so they know the ball is now in my (the seller's) court.

Clive and I (I'm his girlfriend, he's gone back to work and I've taken eBay back over) have only had a small handful of people that didn't want to do it, but it seemed to be because they'd done the tough checkouts prior. Once they saw the Vendio one, most were converted!

I still won't use it.

I type in the bid amount, click once for bid now.

Then, I click on Paypal and enter password, click on pay and that's it.

They can be responsible for correctly (yes, I did say correctly) typing in my name and address on the label.

Lazy works both ways. My time is valuable as well, and I did just give them my money. They can handle it from there or I bid elsewhere.

I also don't use checkout for my sales. I am capable of filling out the address and mailing the package without the trouble. I think checkout just adds to the growing impersonal "store" feeling of the new Ebay and I don't care for it at all.

Of course, I don't argue with the sellers. I just click out if their TOS says I must use it and never bid on their items. There are plenty of others out there for just about anything under the sun! If their TOS does not say so I just send the money via paypal as soon as auction ends and never see their emails requesting checkout.

I also never bid on anything that does not have shipping clearly stated so I don't need to hear from them to pay.

GoldMagnet....If you give me one valid reason why I should be doing the seller's bookeeping for him I might. I bid,I pay, sale is finito. What else do you need my $$$ ? It's in Paypal. My confirmed address ? It's in Paypal.
What would you like me to do next write the descriptions and mail the package for you ??

I have had about 15K sales on Ebay without using any primitive, makeshift, manual checkout forms.

If you pay right after bidding and know the shipping, no problem . I'm referring to the people that don't, even if they end up paying by PayPal.

Personally, I like sellers that use a checkout. I do't ahve to wait for a personalized messgae. I can fill out what I need, even if it's 2 in the morning, pay and be on my way. I get a copy and I know if the seller has a problem, I can say "here you go..I did my end".

I have found that the Vendio checkout saves both the buyer's and the seller's time by answering many questions BEFORE they are asked. Questions like "what is your paypal email address" and "how much is shipping" and "what is your mailing address" Not everyone uses paypal, and even fewer people are experienced auction customers. Every time I get one of those questions, I tell them to use the Vendio checkout, and all of your questions will be answered.

I tell them the opposite...View their Paypal Transaction and all will be answered.

horsey said it all: Look at the Paypal transaction and you will find everything you need as a seller!

What email address for Paypal...silly to use as an example. If you accept paypal all the buyer needs to do is click on the Paypal logo and it takes you to the page with that auction listing and has shipping there etc if you have it shown in your listing. No hassle!

And, except for a few rare occassions when I really really want something, I don't buy if they don't accept paypal either. On the occassions when I have gone ahead and bid I usually get burned so will be limiting those purchases even more.

Right, but horsey is going with the theory that all people use PayPal. I do use it frequently, but not always. So to use a checkut, it saves that email back and forth time of "here's my address, what the shipping and where do I send the payment."

All I'm saying (as is allpaintball I think) is as an OVERALL thing, it does help. And it IS better than the eBay checkout. I think that one is almost worse than the Andale checkout.

Bottom line, no one way is going to please everyone. Therefore, whatever works for you, great. But if a seller uses an easy checkout, (and you aren't paying by PayPal) why make waves just for the sake of making waves? All of us here are intelligent enough to be selling (and have delt with enough headaches) why make life rough for another seller? It's not that big of a deal.

Why does everyone hate the Ebay checkout?

I have a few customers who use it and it doesn't bother me at all. If someone wanted me to use it I would because all it takes is a couple of clicks. My address etc is already there and I don't have to enter anything.

I have heard several people post about hating it and have always wondered what specifically there is to hate (other than the fact you probably still have to fill out an address label for the buyer)?

My policy with auctions is to avoid like the plague anything that will cause a bidder to choose someone else's widget. I accept all forms of payment with the exception of farm animals. You want to send me pennies? Okay.

I don't use checkout because there are bidders who just plain don't like it. I keep track of my auctions just fine without it.

I ship to international addresses. I don't hold checks. I don't threaten neg feedback and don't say anything about "serious bidders only" (like that will help).

If I have a bounced check now and then (which, knock on wood, I have yet to have happen), I still have a lot better loss ratio than a B&M does with both bounced checks and shoplifters.

Bottom line..if a checkout runs off even one potential bidder, it's not worth it to me. Even if I ran 1000 auctions a week I don't see how checkout would be an improvement over the system I already have. Of course, you gotta do what works best for you.

Well it is easy enough for those who have the brains to do so. I don't require them to fill out the checkout, but if they do they get a receipt for their purchase.

Brains have absolutely nothing to do with it! I have an MBA (from a real University, not an online diploma) and I will put my "brains" up beside the best of them! I am also computer literate. But, until they come up with a system to enter my info into the proper spaces automatically like Ebay checkout, Office Depot, etc., then don't expect me to do it for you!

I just don't like sellers who appear lazy and inconsiderate! If you want my money don't expect me to fill out crap to get my item. Plain and simple!

Like Deana said, don't threaten me, don't put things in your TOS that make me look or feel like an idiot and don't require me to do anything other than send you the money in return for your sending me whatever I have bid on!

I know some sellers don't care if I make a purchase or not. But, you have to all know that there's very little on Ebay that isn't found listed at least 5 times a week (identical items) so the bidders do have a choice. And, for me, the seller with the easiest method of buying gets my money.

Therefore, I try to do the same with my bidders. Would I prefer to only accept Paypal? You bet. But then, I could have them all send cash, with a 2" x 3" address label enclosed with the payment. Of course, I wouldn't expect to get many bids but those I did get would be easy to handle. Will I do either of the above? Of course not! I don't even require 10 day turnarounds. And, I have a very low deadbeat ratio.

I use an automated checkout process with the other AW

Do I require all bidders to use it....NO

Do I care how single item bidders pay NO as long as I get paid I don't care how payment comes in.

Do I require all bidders wanting combined shipping for multiple items... YES

I am quite clear on requiring checkout if you want combined shipping.

And God forbid I should get an opportunity for post auction add-ons in the checkout as roughly half of the multiple item bidders do and 1/4 of single item bidders who use my checkout do ADD extra items.

For everyone so damned against checkouts off Ebay you'd rather have a 4 day 15 email back and forth game to negotiate combined shipping rates. I have the CHEAPEST combined shipping rates among any of my competitors. It is based on the weight of the entire order ONLY FOUND IN MY CHECKOUT! Feel free to check my terms for yourself. I could easily and simply have a huge 1st item ship rate shown on the auction adds and a ridiulous flat rate for each additional item but I don't.

The Ebay checkout after all this time still does not accomodate anyone buying more than a single item from a seller. WHY DON'T THEY?? I mean damn why the hell not after 1 1/2 years since introducing the Ebay checkout. Paypal started the one click pay for multiples from one seller BUT it forces you to pay full shipping x 2. It is still a long way off from proper combined shipping.

If you buy 2+ items from me, complete my checkout it gets shipped the same day if done and paid by 5:45 pm.

If you want an email volley game with me I physically cannot respond until after I have packaged and shipped everyoneELSES orders and will get back to you sometime later that evening.

You just lost an entire day in getting your package.

While many here love to cry on each other shoulders about how slow this week is and how sales are down all the bidders are gone (insert additional whining here)

For me each month is better than the last

I have never had a slow month.

I only have busy or "really busy" months.

In my early days no matter how hard I worked I could not get powerseller status. There were not enough hours in the day to hand write all those stupid personal emails and manage to get enough listed and sold to support myself. Once I streamlined the process I became a powerseller a month later then upgraded to silver level a few months after that.

Before my monthly sales were in the $100's now they are in the $1,000's. Before I had to wait tables full time and try to sell on Ebay. Since I streamlined my operation I NO LONGER WAIT TABLES!!!

lovepotions, hee hee hee!
Sexy stuff ALWAYS sells, doesn't it! The worse the economy gets, the better sex sales get!
Do you like your yahoo store?
and- how is it selling in the "Mature audience" section on ebay? I tried it several years ago and was pretty disgusted, but ebay says they have upgraded things there so maybe I'll start again. I only sell handmade items, and they got awfully lost in there.
What items can you get away with selling in the main section?

If you ever want to disprove Meg's statement of Ebay as an equal level playing field....

Try selling adult merchandise!

Ebay's dark alley gets the least equal, least fair playing field than all of the rest of Ebay's inequalities combined.

There is no Buy Now

There is no fixed price anything.

There is no paypal on the auction page listings......however paypal still does send out the "Pay now with paypal" emails to bidders.

The Mature audiences categories did get a well deserved clean up over a year ago and I'm quite happy with it. Some of the video sellers had some really nasty pictures. I am really glad that they can no longer post overly graphic images or disgusting descriptions. I do not sell videos nor do I ever plan to.

I love my Yahoo store

HOWEVER it cannot be listed among the Yahoo shopping network because it has adult products. I have to rely on normal search engines for visibility there and traffic. Sales are pretty good there.

I am debating opening a 2nd store that fits within guidelines of the Yahoo network for Shopping and offers only the mainstream products. All I need is one full day with no commitments to get it up.

On Ebay

Noone gets away with anything in the end. People hiding toys on the main site eventually get shut down. They are always new sellers trying to sell on the main site but they eventually get cancelled and/or suspended.

Nearly all sellers, I'd say 90%+ in the adult toys section are committed and VERY PROFESSIONAL merchants. We are all powersellers and all of us have better than 99% positive feedback ratios. It is not a game or hobby. With so much stacked against us in this puritanical world we make sure we all follow the rules.

On the main site I sell lotions, lubes, bubble bath, glitter gels, massage oils and shaving cream. Not everything is adult oriented..... Lotions or potions with nudity on the packaging or with names like Nympho cream are in Mature audiences.

I just took some pictures of my office and products to show my grandma.

(edit to fix the urls)
