Okay. I've scoured the listing pages for how to make my auction private. I've gone to Ebay's help page and they tell me what a private auction is but not how to do it. Any suggestions?

I should probably mention that this will be a store listing. Is it not possible to make a private store listing? I'd much rather pay $0.05 for the store item than $0.35 for a BIN auction for this!

I don't know about listing through Vendio or Andale but manually listing through ebay the box for a Private Auction is found on the Pictures and Details ( 3rd page of listing process )

It's right below the starting price and below the Reserve and Buy It Now Options

Private Auction
Keeps bidders' User IDs from being displayed to others.

Why do you need a Private Store listing - no one sees those transactions other than you and the buyer anyway.

This person has come to me asking if he can buy things without bidding. Most of the time this means that they don't want to have to search through the store and make 20 clicks to get everything they need. I assume this to be the case so I wanted to set up something private for confidentiality as this was an undertone of the email. I often set up store listings like this but have never used the private option.

I'll go check page 3 again...Thanks!

If they want the item without bidding then just sell it to them and save the hassle and ebay fees. The chance of any ebay worker ever running a sting on an average seller is one-in-a-million. The beauty of an ebay store ( or any online store ) is the buyers can see what you have and buy off-site.

You're lucky. Most of the time what it means for me is that the person is unwilling to pay even as much as my absurdly low prices.

Got three of those emails just today.

wendy...wouldn't follow the advice given to sell off eBay if I were you..just one mess up and your done....Is it really worth it? If you have a website, you can direct them to that, though.

Hi Wendywins,

Sorry, not much time to research (dinner's about due) but here's what I *think* is what you want.

From the bottom of your My eBay Page:

Block or pre-approve certain bidders

Pre-approved Bidder/Buyer List — Create your own pre-approved bidder/buyer list for any item and only allow those on your list to bid on, or purchase, your items. Any bidder/buyer who is not in your pre-approved list will be asked to contact you by email before they can place a bid or purchase your item. You can add or delete bidders/buyers up until your listing ends

Hope this info helps.

Bye - off to the kitchen!

I set up the auction and sent the link to him and he bought it right away. I guess the only place the purchase will show up in is his feedback. I have used the pre-approved bidder feature in the past to keep other bidders from buying these "lots" before the requestor got to it.

I often have bidders come to me and ask if they can just paypal me the money so I can save on "fees". To me, that is a HUGE red flag. Since when does a bidder care about saving the seller fees?

I have as many competitors as I have customers so I never sell off of ebay because I don't know who is there to do me in.

Thanks everyone! I guess the bottom line is there is no way to make a store listing private?!

You are handling this wrong. It is not a red flag at all. I get these e-mails roughly everyother day. What you do is send them a WBN and let them pay. Then and only then do I cancel an auction (if it is a one of a kind item). If I have many of them, then great. A transaction has been completed.

Then you write.
I have as many competitors as I have customers so I never sell off of ebay because I don't know who is there to do me in.
Which is the reason you never cancel an auction until you have the money in hand. Of those 15 e-mails I get, 1 or 2 never send the money and I assume those were competitors. But the others send the money. Simply it don't make sense to not entertain the offers. You just need to change your strategy to effectively allow you to make more sales and ultimately, money.

The main point is to never, ever end an auction until the money is in hand. Then when you do and it was the only one of those items you had, then put something else in it place so you don't lose the auction.

Hi Stone--

I rarely run auctions. All of these items are ebay store inventory widgets. I have bidders every day just send me a list of what they want and then comes the offer to just send money to save me the fees.

What I do is copy and paste their list into a single click store item and send them the link. They desire convenience in purchasing as well as payment (in only having to make a single one of each). Every person I have done this for has purchased the lot I set up except one or two and I do this daily. I am also left to assume that the ones who didn't bite were competitors.

By doing this I only pay $0.05 for the listing and the bidder is satisfied (and minimally confused). So far it has worked out...

Ok,
So there not auctions, so what? You are trying to sell an item and if your customer would rather pay you direct avoiding ebay, then great.

Why not simply send a WBN or I send a purchase info e-mail with the totals with shipping and skip the ebay step. Keep the money.
Pretty simple concept.

Great idea on custom listing their want lists.
It's a crying shame that ebay will not promote the searching of the ebay stores in general. Of course, if sellers started listing in the stores more and more and in the auctions less and less there would be a major revenue loss.

I run a lot of private listings.

HOWEVER

Just to let everyone know.

There are no private dutch auctions

There are no private store listings

There are no private straight "fixed price" listings.

A classic auction with the added "buy now" feature CAN be private.
