Well... I was wondering if anybody here had any trick to leave feedback when an item number has expired. I've been dealing with this real jerk of a bidder since March. He sent me payment and asked me to send it to a certain address. He contacts me a month later and said that the item hadn't arrived. I told him when and where it was shipped to. He told me that the address was an old one!!!.... and then expected me to refund his payment or send out a replacement item! Anyhow... you can guess my reply to that!

So... last night the guy left me a negative feedback... and when I found out this morning the item number had expired. So... my question is did the guy end up getting me good... or is there anyway I can still leave him the negative feedback he so richly deserves! (He kept on insisting that the mistake was mine... even though he admitted to providing the wrong address in his e-mails to me!!) The nerve of some people! All this over $5 (s/h included). Oh well... even with the negative I feel I made the right decision if only for the principle! Thanks for any help you can give!

All Right!!! I figured it out by myself!!! How 'bout that! In case anybody's interested.... here's the trick...

1) Go into one of your completed auctions.
2) Click on the "Leave Feedback" link
3) It will come up with a feedback form with the User ID and item number pre-filled.
4) Delete the pre-filled information and replace with the User ID and expired item number of the person you wish to leave feedback for.
5) Make your comments and hit the Leave Feedback button!

It really works! It does make me feel much better.... especially since I know he waited OVER SIX MONTHS to leave feedback so I couldn't leave him what he deserved. Anyway... hope this helps other people in similar situations!

jvj24601,

My problem was that this auction was WAY past 90 days... it ended in the end of March! I was actually rather surprised to see the feedback this morning! He must have used a similar method to the one I describe above to leave me the feedback. It just shows you that there's a lot of little loopholes that you can take advantage of if you know how. That's why I love this board. We have lots of smart people who share lots of great secrets for the benefit of the community. I truly hope that this method helps someone else that finds themselves in a similar situation!

I tried it with an old transaction and received the folowing message

Item not found
There is no match because:
You have no transactions with #####
Or the time limit for leaving feedback (90 days) has expired

AuctionAce,

I wonder if the different areas for leaving feedback are using different databases. They could be updated at a different interval. If so.. that would explain why this worked. The initial feedback was left at 20:00 PST yesterday... and I was able to leave him feedback at 7:00 PST today. Somewhere in that time the item number became invalid... and was reflected in the item page database.... but may not have been updated in the feedback database yet. So.... I may have just squeezed it in. Regardless... I'm glad it worked!

Unfortunately this trick doesn't work as I tried leaving feedback for several auctions that were well over 90 days. Someone might be able to slip in a feedback if its only a day or two past 90 days, but even that wouldn't work for me.

Until Ebay changes their feedback policy so as to not allow deadbeats to leave negs - then best thing to do is not leave any negative feedback.

You can leave feedback for any auction that is still in Ebay's database, regardless of the time limit. Just because it doesn't show up when you enter the item number in search doesn't mean it's been purged from their database. It's just been removed from public display. There are a number of reasons why Ebay may want to retain auctions in their database for more than 90 days. My guess is that this item was listed in a category that is going to be removed, expanded, or modified with new leaf sub categories in the future and they need information from at least 6 to 9 months worth of closed auctions.

Most auctions are only in the database 90 days or a bit longer. Once the item shows up as invalid, then no feeback can be left. I would just love to leave feedback 6-9 months after the fact but anything much more than 90 days isn't possible.

There were a couple of old auctions I had in a book category, and for some strange reason those auctions are still showing up as valid - and I can still pull them up from the main search page by just entering the item number and its been 5 months since they closed. I suspect thats a quirk with Ebay as they may be tinkering with the category and planning to add subcategories in the future.

How do you do it?

Ace
You do it exactly as eauctionmgt described in his second post. He got lucky because the auction was still in the database for some reason 6 months after the auction closed.

I suppose you can get lucky and do almost anything on ebay as it's so full of glitches.

I think the poster's glitch may have something to do with the right to respond to feedbacks left.

No it would appear to be crappy programming via an incomplete loop.

If transaction date is older than 90 days do not allow access to leave feedback loop.
If into feedback loop allow access to database

The imcompetance/oversight of the programmer allows you to change the transaction number after the initial check when you are already have access to the database.
