This is a new one for me ~ just opened it up through Ask Seller A Question.

Hello, Im writing you kinda out on a limb. As you know Christmas is rapidly approaching, and with the season nearing I worry more and more. You see, last December, my husband suddenly passed away at the early age of 38, leaving me with our 3 kids, one 16, one 13, and one 10. Ever since then I can barly make ends meet, and im afraid for Christmas my kids will be let down tremendously. I cant afford many if any presents for them, and they surly deserve them for what they've been through. We rent our home, and scrape by every month. Anyways, I wanted to know if you could possibly donate this item to my family for Christmas. It would be very much worth it, and would bring so much joy to my child. It would be such a generous thing for you to do for my family, and we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for your time and consideration, and please feel free to email me with anything, or response. P.s, this is my sisters computer, these are all her transactions, im just using it for !
now. Please COnsider this, it would mean the world.
Sincerely, Donna

BTW, the item that would bring so much joy to her child is adult clothing.
so ... am I a total pessimist?
To me this is nothing more than a feeble attempt to pull at my heartstrings!!

God how I would love to respond!!!

*** looks like it's going to be a looooong Christmas season ***

edit: guess I forgot how to bold???

I'm having a good time thinking of responses...
In response to:

I was thinking:
So many people like yourself are lonely at this time of year...have you considered reaching out to the lonely men in your hometown to see if they can help you make ends meet? You know, in exchange for your 'time & consideration'...

of course, I could go straight to the point and say:
Have you considered GETTING A JOB and WORKING???
or, of course, I could offer to send her 16 year old my spare Ferrari....

why is it that she can spell words like tremendously, generous, appreciate & consideration but cannot spell barely and surely?

I am shocked. Shocked, I tell you. You people are all heartless pennypinching polo-shirt-wearing tassel-loafer-shod Republicans! Pray it never happens to you that you lose your husband at age 38 and you have to talk dirty on the phone for a living! You think it's easy saying, "Oh baby, you make me so hot" all day long. Huh? DO YOU?

If you don't send that woman a plasma panel TV RIGHT NOW you are all going to Hell. I mean it.

Dear Donna, I can really relate to the challenge you are dealing with right now. Believe me it is a CHALLENGE and not a handicap or problem. Instead of asking for handouts and sitting on your butt, why not try to do something about your situation.

You see I am in a similar situation. Not only have I lost my partner in an explosion but in the same explosion, I lost my legs and the use of one of my hands and I am legally blind. You have 3 kids to feed. That wouldnt be hard for me. I have 6 kids Ranging in ages of 8 years to 6 months. I sell online to help make ends meet. You see me asking for hand outs??? And what do you do? Beg ? That will get you far in life. What a wonderful example to set for your kids. That is if you really have any

Get a job, get a life, quit complaining and do something about your situation rather than begging. Get over yourself. I have.

Dear Donna,

I am typing this slow because I realize you probably don't think too fast.

There is nothing wrong with renting a home - lots of people do it, and you should be grateful you have the money (don't you?) to pay the rent.

Donna, Donna, Donna - girlfriend. If you are barely scraping by then you aren't doing enough. Get a second job - hell, get a third one! Be creative! Be innovative! Be a trendsetter! Be the first in your trailer park to sell on eBay! Salgal can give you some pointers on making thousands of dollars real quick!

To quote a line from a now burned-out cliche of a song "Don't WORRY, be HAPPY" - don't know if you have already weaseled a combination CD player/radio from someone, but if you have I think they still play that song. Instead of exhausting your energy worrying, use it to pull yourself out of that worn-out bathrobe and set an example for your children!

ps - and I suppose you expect free shipping too?

It is fun to think of things to say to scammers. Witty quips and one liners that will set them straight and let them know you are not fooled.

But what good is a sharp tongued response.

If it is a scam, they won't care, and if it is legitimate plea, it will be sorely taken.

Reckless words pierce like a sword,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Proverbs 12:18

If you choose to reply at all, you might let them know you are not in a position where you can make a charitable gift to an unverifiable situation. If you were able to donate to a family it would be wiser to give to a local family which would not waste money on shipping.

You might suggest she look for some local corporate sponsors who might be interested in her situation. That way all of the donation could go to them instead of to shipping charges.

United Way may also have some ideas of where she can turn for some help.

here we go.
She doesn't want help, she wants a handout.
gousainc, she doesn't want my reply, she doesn't want any advice, she doesn't want a local corporate sponsor, or assistance from the United Way.
She wants a free ride just because she thinks she should have one.

The least she could do is put on a halter top, mini skirt, 6" heels & fishnet hose & stand on the corner to make some extra money.

I think it was a couple years ago now I remember a lady who had a family disaster like yours. And posted on the Ebay board I THINK.
She posted a list of items she wanted given to her to help the family get by.

On the list of many items she needed to get by was a:

Jewelers Loop.

Ya gotta feel sorry for her!

"You people are all heartless pennypinching polo-shirt-wearing tassel-loafer-shod Republicans!"fluffy very funny I love it.
Zoomin, You might want to get this gals name and address. Then contact someone like Catholic Charities, or a Franciscan group in her area they will check this gal out and give her a hand if needed. My wife's Franciscan group is always looking for people like her to help. Maybe she is telling the truth and maybe she is working 1 or 2 jobs. I see real people that are hurting almost everyday there are a lot of them out there. I believe even cold hearted Republicans might help if they ever went were the real people with real pain and hardship live. Most republicans only go where their are people like them and miss the whole picture. I personally feel as bad for that kind of person as I do the down and out people. One question I will ask you guys and gals, when you stay in a motel and see all those dark skinned people cleaning up your mess do you ever leave a buck or two as a tip?

She is begging for an item for her child and it is adult clothing but could possibly fit the 16 year old. I guess if she sits there all day sending these e-mails to everyone she can, eventually she will score something.

Maybe she will get a real good haul and it's easier than working at a real job every day. Maybe she will get free stock to resell on ebay and also some cash.

I've been around awhile and I find that the ones that need things the most are usually the ones that beg the least.

I've seen so many scams that things like this don't tug at my heartstrings. I would rather help someone in my community that I know REALLY needs the help.

How can you get that email to turn into a Republican bashing. You have warped minds. Political comments go to the round table...
What you need to do is put that person on ignore and forget about it....
