I bought something for a friend (not on eBay, but through the internet), and paid for it via PayPal, and then found out that my sister bought her the same thing, so I want to find out if I can reverse or cancel my payment to the seller? I emailed them and told them the situation but have not heard back from them yet. It just happened a minute ago so I'm sure they haven't accepted the payment yet.

Does anyone know how I can cancel my payment on PayPal?

Thanks in advance for your help!

NO! You CANNOT "cancel" a PP payment -- UNLESS, it was sent to a NON-EXISTANT email address!

In that case, your transaction will be marked as "Pending" in your PayPal account & you CAN cancel such transactions!

All you can do is WORK THINGS OUT WITH THE SELLER -- which is the polite thing to do since it was YOUR MISTAKE & not the seller's!

it depends on how the seller set up her account,if she is a small seller who does not accept credit card payment, she can refuse his payment.
but it sounds like this is not a hobby seller.
if seller agrees ,she can hit the refund button and the money will come back to you.

Yup, unless the sellers agrees to a refund you are stuck.

You're a good friend....as is your sister. You made a binding bid and you made payment. Tell your friend to expect 2 instead of 1 of whatever it is. Hopefully for you or your sister you will will run into a seller who works with one of you(if it was me I would let you slide). Otherwise, it's your responsibility and there's nothing legal or ethical that you can do.

She said it was not an eBay transaction. It was probably from a website and I would think that she could write them and explain what happened and if they believed her then they would probably cancell the transaction. She could also wait for the item to arrive and then return it. That is if they accept returns.
