I know from reading this board regularly that some of you use multiple ids on ebay. I have two and have mainly used the one that has several thousand feedback (2 negs a few neutrals and rest positives). The second one only has 55 (all positive). I sell mostly new collectibles with some yard sale type items thrown in. My question is...would you just stick with the new collectibles on one id and sell the yard sale things on the second id or does it seem to matter if you mix things up? Do the ones of you who have multiple ids sell different things under different ids?

IMNSHO it doesn't matter much.

I use different IDs so I can try out different selling methods. I also don't want to confuse my jewelry-buying audience, some 4000 people strong, with auctions for my old used stuff.

Some ebay sellers have a selling account for each product group they sell. They may have one for music CDs, one for elctronic goods, etc. to help them with their repeat bidders. That sounds like a good plan for those selling many items in certain selling areas.

Many hobby sellers buy and sell general stuff they find at garage sales and such and a seperate ebay ID would make that much of a difference in those cases.

There are lots of reasons to have & use multiple IDs. I have FIVE:

1) Main account, powerseller. All new merchandise. It's extremely rare that I have any quality problems here. I have a generic template that reads "all items are new..." blah blah.

2) Secondary. I sell used stuff and clearance type items here. Never had any real problems, but theoretically the used stuff should be more risky, so I segregate it from my new items. I have a generic template that reads "all items are used..." blah blah.

3) Half.com account. Half.com people are really into bad feedback for the sillest things, and I don't wnt them messing up my eBay account, where feedback actually matters.

4) A fourth account, where I'm currently experimenting with overseas eBay sites. It's another account, because my auction service wants it that way. My template says "I ship from the USA, shipping will be XX in Pounds."

5) An older account that I don't use anymore, but still have 70ish perfect feedbacks on it. This is my "disaster recovery" account, in case something goes terribly bad with one of the others (like a stalker or something). I have no plans for this account, but it's nice to have it for future expansion.

As you can see, it's mostly for feedback reasons, but there are technical reasons to have multiples as well.

Thank you all for the great responses. I think..especially for the Christmas season...I will separate my new collectibles from my yard sale stuff. That way if someone is just looking for new gifts they may look at my whole list and won't get bogged down with used items. I do appreciate the ideas and the reasons ya'll have multiple ids. Thanks!!
