I confess, I know nothing about this type of porcelain, so I beg your expertise here...I don't know if I have new, old, good, or junk. I've checked gotheborg.com and cannot decipher the marks - they all look similar to me. Anyone have any ideas on these three different things I have? I know I'm asking a lot, but I don't know where to start.

Item 1) I'd guess it is a ginger jar and it really does look quite old to me. Has embossed gold beaded design and flowers. Quite nicely detailed on both sides. Gold over orange mark on bottom.

Item 2) 4 Small Finger Bowls? that measure 2 3/4" in diameter and nicely painted - tiny crazing all over and some darkening to porcelain and look old to me. All 4 have different markings in black an different scenes.

Item 3) 6 Tiny shallow dishes that measure 2 3/4" across and are so feather light they are like very fine bone china. The same hand painted scene with subtle differences on each. No marking on back but bottom is unglazed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the first set looks interesting, and they are proabably japanese, the women are japanese for sure,so if they are a pair, then the men are japanese men.
the second set of 4 are women playing different instrument, they are probably also japanese.
third i dunno.
there is no finger bowl ,but the japanese dinner do consist of many small dishes of radish, small piece of this and that, you dont want to be their dishwasher!
the first set looks old and if in good condition, should fetch you a good japanese dinner.

CTA: sanmar is NOT a her. At least I have never been accused of it. Having been married 4 times to 3 different women. These appear to all be Japanese. Item #2 is a question. #1 & 3 are definitely Japanese. The #3 is a very common type of Japanese art, the tree in the meadow & the lake.

They are as sanmar said, Japanese. I cannot read the marks, though. The first one is a mystery to me. It's hard to tell from your photos. The second and third items I would guess mid 20th century on those.

Remember that just because it looks old, that doesn't make it old. There are a lot of Chinese and Japanese forgeries out there. When speaking in terms of orientalia, old isn't really old until you get to 18th century. For some it's 17th century.

You can visit www.gotheborg.com and perhaps someone there can help you more.

Do let us know when you list. I collect Japanese and Chinese and am long overdue for a new item. I'd rather buy from the people here a Vendio.
