Okay - I've gone everywhere to look for even a hint at who made this compote! I've checked books, Web sites - even asked an expert in EAPG - and we're stumped!

We did find a similar pattern in "The Identification of English Pressed Glass 1842-1908" by Jenny Thompson, and "The Peacock & The Lions" by Sheilagh Murray.

The pattern we found in both was for the Greener & Company of Sunderland, England. Neither pattern showed this great Grecian pillar stem on this compote.

The only other remotely similar pattern we could find was a Carnival Glass pattern done by the Imperial Glass Company about 1911 called HATTIE. It has a similar geometric crossover pattern, and was said to have been inspired by a French pattern.

The stem of this compote is not typical of either American, or English Pressed Glass, so it was suggested to look at Baccarat or Vallerystall as possible manufacturers.

The expert I checked with said if it is flint, she would almost bet on Baccarat. Any hints on how to tell if it would be "Flint?"

Any help, suggestions, comments on how to list this, etc. -- would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Stop - I don't think so unless it is hedden - Those are 8 pointed stars, Star of David is only 6.

The stars and something about the general motif has a PA. Dutch feel to it for me but I know NOTHING about glass so don't take that to mean anything other than a personal observation.

Flint glass has a high lead content, like cut glass. Try tapping it with a fingernail to see if it "rings." Flint glass will give a high clear ring, like a bell.

Thanks, earthmum. I did "ring" it and compared to other glass I have here, it does have a longer and deepter tone that seems to last a bit longer than the others.

Hmmmm. Now I guess I'm going down the Bacarrat line...

Guess it could be worth more than the $4.00 I spent on it.
