I don't normally sell out of the US but sometimes make an exception. Today I had people in England and Canada asking to bid, so I said okay. Someone in Canada got it. Since addresses in Canada can't be confirmed, according to PayPal, what kind of payment should I ask for. A money order or cash or what? Thanks you guys.

I cast my Vote for Bid pay,,,Japanese use it all the time. NEVER a problem. Cash,,,,well wraped in camo paper in a normal envelope works to. But then again again who cares about the confirm thing? It has worked no problem to. Do you really think your Canadian buyer is out to riiiiiiip you off? How much are we talkin' bout'?

You can cash any Canadian postal money order in US dollars at your local post office.

I wouldn't worry about unconfirmed addresses at all.

I just got an envelope with $57 US dollars in it from a Canadian buyer today. No problem. Anytime someone, domestic or foreign, has sent dollars, I've gotten it. It's happened maybe a couple dozen times.

It is $109.00. BidPay sounds like a good idea, Jack. I should have thought of it, I have the link in my auctions. Duh! Do I think they would rip me off? Hmmm. I have three non-paying bidders right now so I don't trust anyone but you Vendioites. :>O

Probably depends on $ amount. I take PayPal from Canada all the time...my bank charges extra for Canadian money orders, even in US $. Postal money orders are ok though.

I still take Paypal from Intl bidders depending on price. I drop the limit at about $50. Over this amount I don't like to use Paypal for Intl, an unconfirmed address, or APO Boxes since you can't track packages ( I had one for $30 get lost once).

I also take credit cards for Intl buyers trough Propay.

ebayauctionguy, that sounds like an alternative way to pay. Is that what I call it? "A canadian postal money order in US dollars?" I can tell me to use that or BidPay or cash. PayPal makes me nervous. I keep expecting to get another chargeback.

I would use Bidpay. It's the safest and most hassle free method. No chance of a chargeback and no extra fees to cash the M.O. they send you.

I wouldn't go that far. An infrequent poster to this forum bounced a check on me for three eBay items, then claimed she couldn't make good on it due to hardship.

(And no, I'm not telling who it is.)

Postal money orders are probably your best bet if you don't want to use Paypal. You can cash them at the post office. If a bidder from Canada sends me a non-postal money order, my bank charges me $7 to cash it!

As long as the MO is in USD & there are the FED RESERVE routing numbers on the bottom, there is NO excuse for any bank to charge anything for a foreign MONEY ORDER!

My bank (SOUTH-TRUST) charges NADA~ZILCH~NOTHING!

OTOH, foreign instruments are a whole different ballgame...

Good Morning kasue

I would go with Bidpay too as it is faster then having a money order or Cash sent through the mail right now.

However, if it is amount you are comfortable with take paypal which is even faster.

In regards to "Since addresses in Canada can't be confirmed, according to PayPal" who ever told you that is WRONG

I live in Canada and my Canada address is Confirmed and it has been confirmed for years

TRUE...

HOWEVER, if a USA seller ships to a CANADIAN address, & it makes nada difference whether it be CONFIRMED,INJURED, UNCONFIRMED, PRISON, OLD-WOMAN-LIVING-IN-A-SHOE, ETC address,

THE TRANSACTION IS NOT COVERED by the PP SPP!

That be the whole point od requiring BidPay from CANADIANS, etc,etc.etc...

QWhich countries can I ship to and be covered under the Seller Protection Policy?

A If you are a U.S. or Canadian seller, you may ship to U.S. buyers. If you are a U.K. seller, you may ship to U.K. or U.S. buyers.

IOW: USA sellers be covered ONLY if shipping to USA buyers!

Many Canadian Banks have sister banks in the US. I ask for a Money Order Drawn from A US Bank in US funds. This seams to be fairly easy for Canadians to accomodate. I hate Canadian Postal MO becuase I have to go to the PO to cash them. I had one for 3 months before I finally did.

My bank (Bank of America) has no problem accepting International money orders as long as they are in US Dollars, and has no extra fee for handling them. Just tell you buyer to make sure that their money order states US Dollars.

Or Western Union Auction Payments (used to be Bidpay) is a good way to go.

However, a lot of the time Canadian & UK buyers send cash. Brave lot.

That the same reason I hate selling stuff on Ebay.
I have to go to the PO to mail them. I had one item for 3 months before I finally did.

Sounds like you need to find a different bank. I have two banks, TCF and Nova Savings and neither on charges me one red cent to deposit them in my account. I wouldn't accept PayPal if my life depended upon it though. International money order or bidpay. Or if you have a merchant account, credit card direct.

I would agree on changing Banks. If you are going to accept a MO from Canada make sure it is in US funds. I had a Canadian Bidder send me a Canadian MO. I had to go to Canada to Cash it! (I didn't realize it was Canadian only till AFTER I shipped!)
