I was really looking forward to an upgrade from eBay that I could actually use... anyone heard when or if eBay will provide additional room on the title line?

I read on the ebay community message board around the middle of Feb. Ten more characters so people can type L@@K twice or even WOW L@@K. Seriously it is a GREAT and welcome upgrade!

I think that so many people inquired about it to Ebay that they added the second line that only cost 50 cents to get double the hits. Ebay just cares about the money.

I think the extra 50 cents is usually wasted and few extra hits come from the extra line in the title. It merely shows ebay that many sellers will gladly pay for extra stuff when listing on ebay.

Here's the official ebay announcement on the fre extended title characters ( it's still on the ebay announcement page )

***Coming Soon: Extended Title***
Date: 12/31/03 Time: 06:16:23 PM PST

Many members of the Community have let us know that they would like to be able to add more text to their Item Title. We are very pleased to announce that, beginning in mid-February, we will be offering an additional ten (10) characters to the Item Title as part of the basic insertion fee. Currently the Title allows for 45 characters of text, and this will be increased to a total of 55 characters.

The extra ten characters will allow sellers to further describe their items and help buyers better decide which items to look at. The longer Title will be searchable through Title Search, the same way that it is today. Extended Title will be introduced on the U.S. site in mid-February, and on international sites a few weeks later.

We hope this enhancement improves your selling and buying experience on eBay.

Regards,
eBay

Subtitles are extremely useful and do result in a great deal mopre hit IF they are used correctly. If you just use it for more hype it can be a waste. Just breaking up the pattern of the pagee with a subtitle listing can at least draw more eyes naturally to your listing problem is that once they have the readers attention - some sellers are not able to keep it long enough to get them to look closer and check out the auction. If the subtitle is used to hi-light unique aspects of the item or give specific details in an overburdened catagory they are invaluable and I will give them their 50 cents willingly considering that I have found that when used correctly they have helped me double my sell thru rate on some generic type stuff I am trying to clear out and increased bid quantity and amounts over identical items my regular catagories that did not use them. That 50 cents results in an extra $5 or $10 on the final sale so if used right it can be a gret investment.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?
