We have a 34 year old son who is really struggling financially. He got very sick with a brain hemorrhage, lost his job, his home, has gone through a difficult divorce etc. etc. We have tried to help every way we can. He has a large stamp collection that he has asked me to sell on eBay. He collected them as a child and teenager.
I know NOTHING about stamps. They are all in a large loose leaf album, collected from all over the world, some are pretty old. I think that a big problem is that he used those little folded hinges that you lick and stick them in, and I think that may have made them lose their value. I have checked out the stamp auctions on eBay, and it is like a foreign language to me, lots of abbreviations, and words that mean nothing to me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I could sell the whole album at once, but I don't think that would be a good idea. I could sell by the loose page, or country etc. I can't imagine having to look up each individual stamp, and I am really worried about them not being in good condition, and it coming back to bite me.

I, too, as a boy (GRANT was PREZ, I think?), collected stamps -- twas a wonderful HOBBY, but a lousey investment
VERY FEW stamps are worth ANYTHING at all -- if they have ANY value, they should be MINT, & those stickies sold back in the 50s & 60s ruined many stamps -- nobody uses them for years & years!
IF yer positive that he invested mucho bucks, then take the collection to a reputable dealer & pay for a professional appraisal.
If he just fooled around like I did, & ya don't see any upside-down biplanes or mint Zeppelins, I wouldn't expect to recover even listing fees...
Ralphie says he feels really bad about it & sends a BIG BT slobber to your son

Yes, that is what I was expecting. Thank Ralphie for the big BT slobber. Last time I got one of those was from my 11 month old grandson who had a cold at the time, guess who has it now!!
