Curses!! For some reason this browser will not let me view this auction - I get that damned- you are the evil inhabitant of a foreign nation and even viewing this auction is a threat to our security message.

Luckily my other browser has different cookies attached obviously and it let me view it. Thank you for posting this. It was fun to look thru them.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Parklane...Thanks for posting that. Jack..Talk about chills, I looked at that auction and those pic's and about 5 minutes ago I went outside to see 6 FA-18 Super Hornets directly over my house en route back to Lemoore Naval Air Station. They were returning from training in Nevada. Quite possibly the great grandchildren of the heroes who flew those planes more than 60 years ago. Still doing the same great job today.

It's really sad to see that when a son or daughter gets rid of history like that. I know some people need the money but imagine how happy that museum would have been if they could have had that. That album is priceless and I think the selling price was way to low. But then again it is an auction and we have to take what we get. His loss is the bidders gain.

Those were some neat pictures. I wonder how they thought of that and did everyone have a hand in painting them. Any WWII vets know the answer?

There is ALWAYS an Artist that just pops up. Walt Disney had a hand at some of this art.

Well the owner (not the seller/friend) gets what he deserves....... $725

Had ne not wanted quick cash and basically pawned his dead fathers cherished treasure he could have gotten any book publisher to sign him for a book deal.

How many of you have a grandpa or parent or even yourself that would absolutely LOVE a coffee table style pictoral history book of these planes? A paragraph below each one about the pilot or painter and maybe the number of missions flown and where.......

The new owner can't since he isn't family and wasn't there and will never know the father who took the pics.

An interesting piece of real and valuable WWII history cheaply pawned on Ebay.

Glad I took the time to check out this auction. Very moving. It brings a personal memory back to me. During WWII when I was in the first grade I played Raggedy Ann in a school play. My mother sent a letter to my Uncle who was a navigator on a bomber. His group took turns naming the planes and picking the art that would be painted on them. When it was his turn he had the plane named Raggedy Ann and sent me a picture. I wish I knew what happened to the picture but did not find it in my mother's photographs. Every time I see a collection of nose art I always look for Raggedy Ann. Maybe I will find it someday.

Thanks for looking Jack. The only picture of nose art I found with my mother's photographs shows my uncle standing by a plane painted with a pin up girl with his hand resting on her outstretched leg. I don't know why that one survived and the Raggedy Ann did not!

I looked through the box of family photos (I will get them organized some day.) and found the picture. It brings back such memories. I had a serious case of hero worship for my uncle during the war.

My brothers father in-law was stationed on GUAM in WWII where he was part of a unit that painted the nose art on B-29's, P-38's & P-51's. He has photo's of all the nose art they painted & I know there are more that 400 in that album. All in excellent like new condition. I'll have to send him the link for that auction.
