Hi all,

I have this flow blue Willow eggcup, marked Allertons Made in England. I'm trying to pin down the date the mark was used.

There are a couple of pages on Google with Allerton marks but none are like this one. Do any of you experts recognize it?

Thanks,

Lucy

Lucy,
In the first photo, is that a crack at 2:00 o'clock? Also, is that a crack in the second photo on the left side in the white area above the artwork?

Hi Sparkz,

Yes, it is. There's a tight hairline from the rim down to the join. It continues in a semi-circle upwards.

I listed it on eBay tonight. Despite the hairline, it's a pretty piece and might fit in someone's collection. I wouldn't put it in the microwave, though.

Hi Lucy

I have the Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks and it's quite thorough but doesn't show that particular Allertons mark even though it shows 8 other ones.

Yours would have been made 1890 and 1942. I would think maybe 1930's but could be wrong.

One thing to note, egg cup is more common on eBay than eggcup and many sellers use both in their title and description. I don't think yours will come up if a newbie only searchs on egg cup as a title search.

Hi Kiara,

Thanks for the info and the heads-up on egg cup vs eggcup. I just revised the title to include egg cup.

Yeah, I saw the other marks but not this one. C'est la vie!
