I just received a suspension from eBay. The message they sent gave no specific details as to why I was suspended...

"We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community."

That was the first paragraph in the notice of suspension. The rest of the letter had nothing in it that gave a specific reason why the suspension occurred.

Does eBay lower hammer on you like this without giving any specifics? How can one correct a problem when they don't know what the problem is?

I'm losing money while eBay plays around with my business

Boy that is crazy. They put my account on hold over $10.00 past due on my account after 5 years of paying on time but I knew what was going on. Paid it with another credit card and all was forgiven.
Can't you write them?

I guess I am the only one that is awake at this un-godly hour so I shall weigh in and let the experts chime in as soon as they awaken.

Is your account in fact suspended? Did you have actions ended? If no auctions have been ended this may not be the real thing. This does not sound like any wording I have ever heard Ebay use. I am making a guess that this is some sort of spoof trying to get you to respond and give your account info. Did they ask you to click on any link and respond in any way. If they did you may be in the process of being hijacked. Ebay does not send links to respond to.

throughhiker is right - don't ever click a link. Email them from the site map or a live chat. I always use the one on revise an items but if they ended all your auctions???

Sounds like you were selling something that is a big no-no under eBays guidelines for sellers and got caught or turned in. In these cases eBay is not obligated to warn a seller about or explain suspensions, other than referencing you back to the guideines which explain what you can and cannot sell.

My personal assistant received such a notice recently, with no explanation, but we quickly discovered that it was a hoax and that many others had received such also. It wasn't but a few days after my assistant got a PHONY suspension notice, that I too received one.

You might check directly with eBay to verify the authenticity of the notice or just go into eBay and attempt a buy or a post.

Thanks everyone for the replies to my post.

Here's the entire text of the letter sent to my informing me of my suspension:

Subject: FPA NOTICE: eBay Registration Suspension - Section 9- [email protected]

Dear rolaxis ([email protected]),

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community.

Per the User Agreement, Section 9, we may immediately issue a warning, temporarily suspend, indefinitely suspend or terminate your membership and refuse to provide our services to you if we believe that your actions may cause financial loss or legal liability for you, our users or us. We may also take these actions if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us.

Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes the registering of a new account.

Please note that any seller fees due to eBay will immediately become due and payable. eBay will charge any amounts you have not previously disputed to the billing method currently on file.

Regards,

Safeharbor Department
eBay, Inc.

end of letter

My auctions have been completely removed from eBay. So this is a real issue to me. How does one get eBay to reverse a decision like this?

This is fascinating. A great study in manipulation of human interactions. Wake up people, you KNOW that eBay monitors these forums. Yet rather than supply illuminating information, there is monolithic silence. Through past experience and trial and error the subject population is forced to elucidate the existence of underlying un-natural laws. Then the attempt to appease the monolith with behavior that meets the deduced governing laws. Sad, but fascinating.

Yeah, I know the eBay stooges chime in with helpful tid-bits every now and then, but when it comes to this crap there is a deafening silence. How despicable.

Here's the issue. People are conducting online businesses to satisfy an agenda. To have their businesses held hostage to policies that don't give notice of a violation is ridiculous!

Without warning, or the chance to investigate and correct an error, eBay can just pull the plug and leave a company without a way to conduct its business. There is something that is called "cease and desist" that is available to companies, which gives fair warning. I know what eBay's User Agreement says.

Section 9 of that agreement does provide that eBay can either limit your activity, immediately remove auction bids, warn the community of someone's actions, issue a warning, temporarily suspend or terminate membership...

In this case, eBay chose to terminate my membership without so much as a shot across the bow. They can lower the boom without any kind of utterance!

By the way, I was selling or atempting to sell consumer electronic products that are no different than other products of the same category, ie; MP3 players and accessories, DVD players, handheld units, etc.

I have appealed eBay's decsion to have my company summarily excecuted without benefit of my having the opportunity to have the issue, WHATEVER it is addressed and resolved. Whether or not the entertain my appeal is something that remains to be seen.

This eBay policy has such a tremendous impact on businesses. Ebay in the least should communicate its reason for the actions it feels they should take before actually taking the actions.

You are GUILTY until you prove yourself otherwise, cuts waaaaaaay down on e bays work load. There are SOOOOOOOOO many sellers you are a drop in the bucket. If you don't dispute they really care less. To warn ALL in advance,,,,,,,,they'd have to hire MORE people = less pocket money.

Simple solution, someone selling the exact same thing you are wants you to go poof! they just some song to an e bay employee who ever may read it and poof! yer gone.

Powersellers have SOME benies,,,meaning a direct route to e bay. If yer not a PS have fun dealing with e bay.

and the beat goes on,,,,,,,

If you have contacted eBay Support about this issue, odds are you will receive a response. It may take a few days. Agitating about it in the meanwhile isn't going to help. It's their playground, their rules, their way of doing business. Don't like it? Go play somewhere else.

The fact that you had no feedback whatsoever and still had the new user icon suggests to me that you violated a basic rule, such as invalid contact info (as others have suggested). Or you gave eBay a bad credit card number. Nothing will get you yanked off eBay faster than removing their means of getting paid.

eBay "should" do this, eBay "should" do that, yadda yadda yadda. Heard it all before. But whatever you do, DON'T try to re-register under a new ID. That'll earn you a lifetime suspension.

rolaxis.
ebay has many sellers who want to register and sell,so there is really no time to holdhand with any individual.
follow the advices above-contact ebay and wait for a response.
in the meantime, dont register with another name,it will get you suspended for good.
you may want to take the opportunity to get acquainted with all the dos & donts of ebay and paypal.
if you are linking to a site outside ebay, there is this 2 click rule.
there is also a list of items not allowed on ebay.
there is the vero program.
if you are accepting paypal, there is seller protection, list of prohibited countries etc etc.
did you check your registration ??
