Jack...Ya gotta think like they do. Burn that credit card up. Call the credit card company, not the bank, and report it lost. Screw the bank. They have nothing to do with that credit card except their logo appears on your monthly statement and they collect a % from Mastercard or Visa every time you use it. Tell the cc company to issue you a new one. In three days you will have a new card with a different account number. Been there, done that and have the T shirt. If this is a DSL service, it's likely connected with a telephone company. Send a check for the monthly fees to the California Public Utilities Commission, to hold in escrow until they can resolve the dispute. Make a formal complaint that you are being charged for a service that is not being provided. They can't penalize you for non-payment or for filing the complaint. Even if the PUC were to find in their favor, you still have the option of filing in small claims court for recovery of all fees you have paid. If they're gonna try to screw you out of your money, make 'em work for it and earn every dime they get.

Damx Sparkz, you really hit that on the nail. Jack, I feel for you. Where did you find this lump of dog poop? Can you get Verizon DSL in your area? I have been with them for almost a year & they have treated me great. There is no single ISP that is perfect, but Verizon really tries.

Jack...You don't have to knock on the door. Kick the damn thing down and start pounding on that bureaucrats desk. One thing I can guarantee, the minute you send that first payment to the PUC along with your complaint in the same envelope, and a copy of the complaint to the company, one of two things will happen. There will be a crew over at your house the next day and they will have your system working flawlessly, or they will offer to let you terminate the contract early, without penalty if you withdraw the complaint. I was regulated by the PUC for 40 years and the last thing they want is a compliance inspector in their office to investigate a complaint. They always go on a fishing expedition while they're there and usually uncover enough unrelated violations to rake in a few thousand bucks in fines.

Jack

Is the CC your bank debit card? If so, you can close your bank account and go elsewhere. I've done that. You bank also owes you support and good customer service when you need it. Most banks just aren't concerned with their customers anymore. It's a business like anything else. I'm in the process of switching banks, yet again. Someday I'll find one where the tellers and CSRs actually know what they are doing and can actually count past 100. Also forget CC companies helping you out. You have to take matters into your own hands. Raise a big enough stink and you'll probably get somewhere. Be nice, polite, and pleading - you get nowhere. Trust me, even crying doesn't help anymore. LOL!!!!

I have SBC-Yahoo. We switched from Adelphia cable Internet. Couldn't be happier. For $89 per month we get Dish TV, DSL, our phone service and 6 hours of long distance every month. Before that, we were paying $115 to Adelphia for Internet and cable service and then having to pay our phone bill on top of it all. We went from $155 per month down to $89. The only thing I've noticed is that the Dish tends to go out more in a storm than cable. But, who has time to pay that much attention to the TV anyway?

Good luck to you! You have some great suggestions here. In fact, I have saved some of them - just in case.

EDITED TO ADD: If you are not getting the service as stated in your contract, they are in breach of that contract. The contract will become null and void.

Sounds like a debit card being used, a regular cc when reported lost does not allow anymore charges on that account.

However, sparkz is correct, you need to get them involved to support you.

Did you speak to a supervisor at extreme?

I used BELL SOUTH DSL for 6 mos here in NE FL & HATED IT!

T'was the WORST internet service I've ever encountered anywhere!

Switched to COMCAST CABLE WIRELESS HOME NETWORKING and I'm very happy -- other than da price, which is kinda HEFTY, but worth it to me-N-Ralphie!

I can play on my laptop in the bedroom, while he browses on the desktop in da livingroom -KEWL!!

I tried to post to another thread earlier and it didn't go through. I think Vendio had the hickups.
