Hi and thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this awesome vase. I don't know how to describe it as to shape and if anyone can identify the stamp and script that would be SO helpful! I'm gonna try to post a couple of pics here, but I may (likely) screw it up. Thanks again! jenny

I feel certain these photos aren't going to show up. Can someone tell me how to post them - I looked around on the site and couldn't find any instructions. Thanks again!

Remove the *s:
[*img]your picture url[*/img]
The links you posted are to your Vendio account.
For example:
[*img]http://imagehost.vendio.com/preview/cb/cblev65252/threadbox2.jpg[*/img]
Becomes this (once I remove the *s):

Be sure to get the actual URL of only the picture itself. The way to do that is to right click on the picture itself as it is displayed on the web. When the menu comes up, left click "properties". Copy the address shown and use the "URL" tags cheryl posted and paste it here.

Thank you, thank you, Rarrifle! I just hate it when something like this gets the best of me!!! Yes, it is quite a fabulous vase. It belongs to an elderly gentleman client of mine who is 86 (this is really a neat story, I think). When he was about 15, his family lived across the street from two old maid sisters. Someone close to them passed away and they couldn't get gas for their car to go to the funeral. He somehow got ration coupons or whatever, got on his bike and rode to get them some gas. They were so grateful to him that they gave him a pair of these vases. One got broken along the way, but he still has this one. I mean, that was a LONG time ago!
Thanks again to you all for your help.

If you had left out the */ in the front, and the * in the back, you would have this result.

Jenny,
You did perfect on the posting of the pictures. just leave out the "*" on each one. We have to put the asterisk "*" or some other extra letter in the code when we show you an example of it or you won't be able to see it. The program that posts our messages converts it to code for a picture unless we purposefully add an extra letter, like "*".

And for anyone lurking here who is also confused about how to post pictures--when I right click on a picture, the word "properties" doesn't come up in the list but "copy image location" does, and this is how I do it.
Also, again for newbies at this, my pals here taught me to remove the /thumbs./ thing from the image location once it's copied and pasted.
We all learn this--most of us the hard way! You're doing great.

Okay, Jenny, that's better. Now, you must have right-clicked on the thumbnail, not a display of the actual picture. But you are learning! Keep it up!

Thanks again, everybody! I actually did the thumbnail thing on purpose because I was just doing a "test." Now, anybody know anything about this beauty? Thanks in advance!

About all I can tell you about your vase is that Nippon simply means Japan. It could be any number of makers. The writing on your vase is most probably the artist. It's 20th century although I cannot tell you when in the 20th century. My guess would be from early 20th to the 1920's. I personally wouldn't date it to the 19th Century. After 1921, the use of the word Nippon was generally discontinued. The raised decoration is called moriage. It is a beauty. How tall is it?

Good Morning!
This is a beauty! And it's marked!
I sold one on eBay earlier in the year, with no marks, with a warrior on horseback, 23" tall and heavy moriage. (Got less than $100!)
Do your homework...You already know the country of origin and that's a start. Some of the artists are worth alot of $$$'s! Hope this is one of them!

Hi everyone and thank you so much! The vase is about 12" tall. Sorry the sig is upside down - I don't read Japanese, so who knew? I guess I'll just try to keep researching because it's so important to find out everything possible. Thanks again for all your help!

When you list this, you might be better off not mentioning that it is one of a pair. These vases did come in pairs and having only one diminishes the value somewhat as it would be exceedingly difficult to find its mate. IMO, there's no reason to mention the broken vase. This vase should be able to stand on its own. Good luck. I will continue to research for you as well. Should I find anything, I'll post it.

Okay, Cheryl. I appreciate that advice. I really wasn't going to mention it in the auction, I just thought it was a cool story. I didn't know they made them in pairs, though. I knew it was special when I saw it before I even looked at the bottom of it or started doing any research. Thank you again so much. I'm not even going to list it until I find out everything I can about it. Thanks again! Jenny
