I have a Sony Mavica FD-100, which I love, the past 2 days I am not able to get any detail on items that I am taking pictures for listing purposes. For example a sundress with a small liberty print comes out as a solid, or a plaid does not show the plaid line definitions. I am sure I must have changed some setting or something. If anyone can give me some idea how to correct my settings I would really appreciate it.

Press the macro button, sounds like you can't close focus.

Hi Max, thank you, when I use the macro button it still shows up as a solid but blurry.

Is it too bright? Dirty lens? Dirty glasses (lol) I'm not familiar with that model, does it have a setting for distance (mountain symbol) and portrait(people symbol)?
If it gets blurry when you pressed the macro setting, it must have been in macro already and by hitting it again, you took it out of macro.
Could it be in manual focus mode?

I have a mavica MVC-FD75 but what I didn't know is that it had two batteries. One that I charge and the other a lithium battery which is flat and round. Maybe there is something with that. I looked through my troubleshooting but didn't find anything on your subject. Why not go into the sony website and see if there is anything there that will help you. Good Luck. I don't what I will do if my camera ever gave out.

I have a Mavica 73 which I adore. I do know that whenever I remove the battery and put in a new one, the settings (I forget which -- E?) go back to a standard setting and I have to be sure I have settings where I want them. Also, though, it is very hard to get pictures of small prints like a LIberty print.

What I do is first take a closeup of the small print--just a square picture of the print itself--then a long shot of the dress or whatever. At that point I take a closer shot of the dress, not showing it full length but how the print would appear to someone standing and talking to that person.

Then it's a tossup which picture I display first, in the auction itself. I may show the closeup print pic first, or the medium shot, to draw people to the auction.

I don't know if this will help you with your current problem. . . . and good luck!

The little lithium battery is probably just for date and time retention when battery is removed for charging.

Thanks max.

I do the same as Roadsmith. I sell men's ties and some have very tiny print that looks really bad on my larger picture. So I just take a picture of a small area and it seems to workout fine. Check mens ties and see how they image the ties with the snall print and maybe you can get an idea. I sometimes try and scan the ties and if I do it correctly, sometimes I forget to change my settings, they turn out just as nice as my camera. I know what your thinking, it's hard to scan a dress (smile)

thanks all, this place rocks! my manual did not have any troubleshooting for my problem either. I did go to the Sony website which I did not think of until it was mentioned and was not able to get any answers. I do not usually have this problem because I am not use to taking pictures of prints and plaids etc. The best idea is to take a small sample up close, then show the large. I really appreciate it.

I have a FD71 and I'm having the same problem. Really I have two of them and one works fine but the other doesn't.
I played around with it and finally got it to focus but now it's in black and white only??
I'll play with it some more and let you know if I can get it going

I have a Sony Mavica FD81, purchase in 1998.

I swear it used to take sharper pics. The lens is cleen , not scratched. It has been dropped on a ceramic floor about 5 times. According to something I read (I can't remember where) online, that can definitely affect picture quality and performance.

There are settings using the "picture effect" button that make the pics only black and white. With the camera on, with the settings on for taking pics, push the "picture effect" button until the color display is back.

I take pictures of fabric the same way Roadsmith does, but many times even closer up for the "detail" shot.

In the last year, I have been dissatisfied with the lack of sharpness/ability to get detail. I'm convinced it's due to dropping the camera. I'm still using it for now, though. I'd still buy another Sony Mavica.

I was going to try your suggestion but now the color is back and it's in focus???
Maybe it's possessed - I got it a garage sale for $50.00 with the case, charger and 2 batteries. If it holds up - I think I got a deal.

About 6 months ago my Mavica was acting up, so I decided to buy a new camera. I did some cursory research, and decided on an Olympus C750. After bidding on 20-30 of them on eBay, I finally snagged a good deal.
When I got it, I was thrilled with all the bells and whistles. About that same time my Mavica "cured" itself. The Mavica is so much simpler to use, that after about a week, I went back to using it for ebay and other low pixel pictures. If it stopped working tomorrow, I'd buy another one.
