ok, i bee's a city girl...so is this a chicken or a rooster?? (at first thought it was maybe a fish - the thing on the side looking like gills?) This teapot is unmarked, but does it look lfamilar to any anyone of some known china maker?
Thanks for the vote: Chicken, Rooster, Fish

I vote rooster cause the gills like things are the red things that hang down on a rooster and he has a crown. Looks something like shawnee pottery but i don't think it is.

Way way way mass-produced Chinese contemporary blue-and-white pottery commonly found at Cost Plus, Pier One Imports, etc. I have a very similar one in my cabinet, a teapot in the shape of a gourd with a frog perched on it.
Your pitcher design is a takeoff on the traditional European rooster bar pitcher...you see it everywhere, particularly Italy.

I have several friends who used to deal a lot in pottery & china items, including antique stuff, they had shops, did shows, sold in antique malls etc. All of them tell me how difficult it is getting now as China has flooded the market with literally hundreds of different kinds of knock-offs of just about every kind of vintage & antique pottery. Not to mention tin wind-up toys, cast iron, dolls, the list of fakes goes on & on. You just have to be so careful in buying this stuff anymore, there is often simply a real good chance what you're buying is going to be a fake repro item. Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge, it's a hard market to dabble in, educate yourself is the key. Used to be able to buy what pleased the eye -- not true anymore in a lot of cases!

I sell these rooster pitchers frequently too -- only won't be able to much longer - first - this year's batch got busted to million pieces thanks to Alitalia strike - sigh - second and more inportantly - thanks to rampant inflation and wages not keeping pace in Italy - the hand painted versions of ceramics will beome more and more difficult to find affordably - everything is coming through stencilled or decals! Sigh!!!
