I haven't used Vendio's image hosting for any of my auctions for over a year and a half. So today I get an email that states that I owe $4.33 and it will be charged to my CC.

The last auction that I used Vendio's image hosting for was about 18 months ago and I was charged a fee of $0.10 for one image hosted at Vendio so for the last 18 months I get the same email that says my balance due is $0.10 but because it is such a small amount my CC won't be charged at this time.

I am currently using the "pay as you go plan" I thought this was the lowest monthly fee usage plan that they had but apparently they are now charging a minimum monthly fee for this.

Here is part of the email that I recieved today and I have bolded what appears to be a new policy for the type plan that I currently have;

Previous Balance: $0.10
Payments and Credits: $0.00
Fees and Debits: $4.23

Current Balance Due: $4.33

Your invoice amount of $4.33 will automatically be charged to your credit card within the next 2-3 days.

Please Note:
Your current invoice may appear higher than usual only because the new monthly minimum Image Hosting fee is prepaid like other Vendio plan fees.

You must have some images stored on Vendio. Go to "Image Hosting" and delete, and then go to the "recycle Bin" and empty it. And then contact Customer Service about your bill. They say there is no charge to post here.

In the past 18 months I have used the image hosting for posting pics on the boards here but I thought they didn't charge for that and maybe they still don't, I don't know. I just went and took another look at my account and current plan and I am being charged a fee of $2.95 a month as a minimum fee. They do have a link to a page where you can opt out of the image hosting alltogether but then you can't post images here on the boards anymore.

I use Vendio for the discussions on the boards only but if I opt out of the image hosting, I won't be able to at least get advice here on subjects like; What is this thingy or what is this mark on this item, you get the point.

So, what to do, what to do?? Vendio should have another option for just being able to post images on the boards for discussion without a monthly usage fee.

You can post here with a link to any url - your ISP probably has some web storage for users. I think there are many free sites but I don't know any of them - someone else does I'm sure.

Persistence payed off. Accomplished deleteing last image. Meanwhile wonder if Vendio was wise to charge for posting pics on this board. One of the attractions was that people could get information about items they intended to list and without a photo, that is very difficult. The numbers posting to this board may dwindle or is that what Vendio hopes for?

But you can post a picture hosted elsewhere - you don't have to use Vendio image hosting to post a pic. Your ISP probably has free web space where you can upload an image and link here...or try one of the places Tom suggested. For example, if you "right click" on Tom's picture of Bush above you see properties and you can see that he is using deadzoom to host his pics, not Vendio.

I too just got a bill for $4.33 and I have not uploaded any photos since July. had 2 stored and forgot all about deleteing the photos. Thanks Neglus for mentioning this. Wonder how many "Pay as you go" subscribers are aware of this charge for photos they forgot to delete.

This from Vendio FAQs

Q. Are the Community message boards free to use?

A. Yes, the message boards are free of charge, however, you must have a credit card on file with us in order to post messages. The message boards are read-only without a credit card on file.

http://www.vendio.com/help/faq.html/25#213

For those who chose an image hosting plan when you signed up and used it to post images on the boards, delete your images.

Also in My Account/Vendio Account/Online Statements

Click on Image Hosting Plan

Click on Cancel Image Hosting Plan

Then you should no longer be charged each month.

I will be cancelling my image hosting with Vendio but I think it's a little rotten that they are charging me $4.33 before I do. Yeah sure it's only a few bucks but if you add it all up from every member that got caught up in this and are being charged these fees before opting out also, I bet it sure adds up to quite a bit-o-change. I'll still stay as a member just for the discussion forums though.

I guess we all know now that Vendio will be throwing themselves a really great Christmas party this year with the extra revenue collected. Have fun Vendio.

Thanks Tomwiii for posting those other image hosting sites, I'll check them out.

Thanks Neglus for your suggestion to use my ISP for image hosting, I may give that a try. I've never done that before but I am sure i'll be able to figure it out.

Thanks Kiara for posting how to cancell the image hosting on Vendio.

I just cancelled my image hosting and on the page where they ask you questions about why, question 4. Are there any other comments about our services that you would like to tell us? Realising that I would have only this one chance to say something I posted the following;

I am keeping my account for use in the discussion forums and I guess I will now have to use another image hosting option to be able to post images for discussion. You'd think that Vendio could have an option set up so that people could use a temporary image hosting to be able to post images for discussion in the forums, say a week and after that the images are automatically deleted. It would only need to be about 3 or 4 mb in size or even smaller for each member. I don't want to sound ungrateful, I do appreciate all that Vendio and before you, Auctionwatch did for me before this and I acknowledge that you did help me to get started with my sales on Ebay. Thank You and who knows maybe at some time in the future I may set up image hosting with ya'll in the future. I do understand why you have to now charge for your service and if it means anything, you guys are the best.

I feel better about it now.

Strange you should mention that Yellowstone. I don't know how many here were around when auctionwatch started, but Mark Dodd, the founder, set up an area for members to upload pictures for posting on the boards. In fact, there was a strict rule AGAINST using that space for hosting auction images. If they caught you using it for anything other than what it was intended for, they would whip you with a wet noodle and shoot you at sunrise. I know Kiara and Sanmar remember. Anyone else?

It'd be great if they brought that function back, wouldn't it.

Incedently, I use the Ebay picture services for my auctions because I can write and attach my images to auctions offline. It just seems to be a little easier to use to me.

Question: If you delete all of the photos you have in storage, then your monthly bill goes to zero?

I ask because I'm sometimes very active and will pay up for lots of images, but sometimes, I don't sell anything for as long as 3 or 4 months.

You pay a monthly minimum wheather you have images stored or not but I believe that your minimum charge goes towards actual images hosted for auctions run in any given month, no rollover to the next month if you don't host images for auctions.

Here's another thread on another Vendio board that better explains it;

You will still be charged for the plan you signed up for even if you delete the photos. For no charges, you will have to cancel your image hosting plan (instructions above) and then sign up for a hosting plan again if you ever wish to upload more pics.

Kiara is correct. Sonya - the answer lady on the Community Services board explained I had "inactivate" my image hosting account to escape minimum monthly chatges.
