Just got one of those telemarketing calls from eBay. They are trying to promote eBay Stores and Gallery by offering a free 30 day free trial. I told the woman on the phone that because of eBays increase in store fees that are coming in February, I wouldn't be interested in using this service. Never used it before, don't intend to use it now that is going to be more expensive. Besides, my inventory is ever-changing and I sell mostly antiques and vintage items and I think that people who would benefit most from stores are those who have quantities of the same type items. Just one persons opinion, I welcome yours...

Sure wish I got one of those calls. I have a lot to say to them. Greedy, greedy, greedy!!! No store for me! I do have customers ask about where they can see all the items I sell in one place since I don't have a store. There is a good gallery service out there that works on donations. Out of respect for Vendio, I won't say who it is. However, their gallery is fantastic and for a small donation each month it's fully customizable. It's funny the things I'm finding now that eBay has increased their fees. It's given me incentive to stop using the expensive services I've been using and to start patronizing the smaller guys out there.

I let Ralph take the call -- I was too po'ed!

Here's an actual transcript, illegally recorded by me:

"growl,woof,bite me,growl,growl,snarl,bite me,woof,woof"

I think the kid handled himself pretty well!

Cheryl,

Would you mind emailing me at [email protected] and tell me a little more about the free gallery you have discovered? I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks!
Lynne

Before VD came up with their GALLERY, I always used for MY auctions, an AUCTION GALLERY by the imaginative name of MAG

He is very responsive to any problems & very professional!

Donna know why I switched (http://tinyurl.com/5pmpc) I just ended up liking my VD better by a smidgen

Pricing is similiar...

my ebay store if fantastic. I sell enough to offset my fees and then some. Low insertion fee, now on major search engine and a great omniture ready out of how the store was found, what were they key words and more. The best thing going on ebay, especially for stock that does not move on auction. I love it!

Stock that does not move on auction, really won't move in stores. I think some sellers are crazy to have their inventory tied up in eBay stores.

I disagree, you have a chance of moving your inventory within 30 days where the auction fees would kill you. If you have 300 items or over (unless the items sell for big moola) even with a lower sell through rate you are better off in fees going with a store with the price increases. I would also say I think the stores will soon have a shoppping cart option. If E-Bay calls me I will tell them I won't re-open my store for another month untill I get new merchandise in. But your best bet is to increase the number of items you carry in your store and keep the auction listings down.

Right on the money. It's improved with a category feature now. Way better than it used to be. Even has a mini gallery.
