With FEB 18 loomung upon da blue horizon, Ralphie & I are starting the planning for when the proverbial poop hits da fan!

Of course, if EVERY SELLER closed their listings for one week, feeBay might get the message ~

However, the reality is: dat ain't gonna happen in this lifetime, so it's time to deal with the lousey hand dealt to us

LET'S HAVE A NICE DISCUSSION ABOUT STRATEGY:

1) 10 DAY LISTINGS:

Ah...truly a thingy of the past fur Ralph & I! We always used the 10 day -- twas expensive @ $0.20, and moves into the totally outrageous @ $0.40!

Anybody here gonna still use it?? If "YES," clue me in, please

2) GALLERY:

We ALWAYS used it -- but NOW, that price is too truckin much!

We will continue it with the STORE items (tis only a penny), but we're pretty sure we be dumping it for REGULAR listings

What we might do is use FEATURED ($19.99) once per month -- the one time Ralphie talked me into it, we had buyers crawling out the woodwork! Anybody else have any experience to share about FEATURED?

If we DUMP the regular GALLERY & use FEATURED once/mo, I think we might de GREAT????

3) BIN:

Well, all our CONSUMER items are FIXED-PRICE listings -- like a TRUE DUMMY, I just figured out a TRICK about FIXED-PRICE listings:

The price does not go UP logically when ya increase the QUANTITY! I thought that TWO would be more expensive than ONE, & that THREE would be more expensive than TWO!

BUT: it donna work THAT way: there has to be a formula someplace, but, depending on yer price, THREE can cost the same as TWO & evem FOUR cost the same as TWO (I'm talking insertion fees, here)...

So, I now obviously list as many as cost the same as TWO (be it 3 or 4 or, EVEN 5) -- if ya sell all, yer insertion fee really DECREASES dramatically!

I'm going back to bare bones listings. I have to. I'll not give them any more than I have to. It's bad enough how much the FVF has increased. I'm scaling down on Gallery and BIN right now. I have no auctions running with BIN. I'll use Gallery for antiques and vintage stuff, but that's it. Besides, most of my customers are repeat customers and they know what I sell and where to find it all in one place.

Have you ever tried either of the FEATURED's ??

BTW: who in their right mind would EVER pay $0.40 for the 10-day listing????

Like: can you imagine???

Tom, I only use eBay Gallery if I sell something "special", I use Vendio Gallery and figure that is all will use in the future, but may reconsider that also.

I never use 10 day auctions anyway.

Will not be using BIN anymore.

As for my store, I will wait and see how it goes in Feb. I will try and figure out when I am starting into profit, and if it is worth it. My items are low selling prices and profits, so it may not be worth it. With 8% fvf's, it is really going to cut down on profits, (for the sellers of course, a big increase for eBay!)

Never tried featured yet. You are right about the 10-day thing. I have used it on a couple of times. However, now it will be more worth it to just re-list and then get my fees back it it sells the second time. $.40 for 3 days? Are they nuts or what?

For standard items such as new merchandise like DVDs, etc. that can be accurately described in the title, gallery is probably a waste of money.
For antiques and the like, I think it is valuable. When I am looking for an antique item, the gallery lets me pre-screen the listing. If I click on something without a gallery pic, I invariably regret wasting the time, so I simply ignore those listings most of the time.

Personally, I'll keep listing as usual although it's not really a big deal since the UK price changes don't really effect me.

If I was selling the same product on the US site I would start reevaluating how I sold since the market here is over saturated. If anything, the US site price changes may actually help open that market up to me more since I have a funny feeling that many of the sellers in my catagory are going to liquidate their remaining inventory and then move to different avenues. I think I'll start tracking the trends and see what happens in the weeks following the price increase and reconsider selling in the US again.

Well Tom, I know you didn't like Overstock, but I have stuck with it and it is paying off. I'm selling as well there as I did on eBay. To top it off, from February 18th (Black Friday) to March 18th, Overstock is cutting it's already low prices by 52%! Also, there is a $10 credit towards fees when you sign up. Give it another try, they are really cranking things up. Their stock has gone up, not down.

I am going to raise my prices a little. I can't raise them too much because of the 99 centers. I will also drop the BIN on auctions.

I haven't made up my mind about the gallery. All the times before when I didn't use it sales dropped.

I am keeping my store since I just opened it the first of December and would like to see how it does even after the fee increase. I will continue using BIN but only the lower cost fee. I have never used Gallery pics since it ran up my bill too much(it all adds up very quickly) I never have used 10 day for myself so that won't change. Everyone will adjust themselves or go someplace else.

Tom/Ralphie whichever does the listing..please elaborate.I am not sure I understand. Are you saying there is not a listing fee for each item listed bulk? Say..if you list FP and enter 3 in quanity slot, are you not charged for listing 3?
NO .. i just tried it , doesn't work. Ralphie must have clout ..hehe

I found this out on the last 10 fixed price listing day. If you list 3 items say at $3.99, it is still under $9.99, so the listing cost is 35 cents. If you list 4, then it will be 60 cents, but you could list a 6 at $3.99 for the same 60 cents.

Oooooo I think I understand now- it is contingent on the price of the items listed...thanks -

In answer to this thread :
I concur 10-day listing is history! I will use the store more and also do MUCH more off eBay selling. I will continue gallery. BIN is gone with the wind.

IOW:

(example only)

Let's say you list an item for QUANTITY 1 @ $49.99:

the FIXED-PRICE insertion fee is somewhere around $1.30

NOW, up the quantity to TWO, & the insertion fee goes up to $1.86 (logical, right?) --

BUT: up the quantity to THREE, & guess what?

The insertion fee STAYS at $1.86!!!

So, I then try to see what FOUR costs & guess what?

YOU CAN list FOUR at the same $1.86 as TWO!!!

(those numbers aren't correct, but you get the idea, right?)

SO: what I do now is list as many in QUANTITY that costs me the same price as TWO!

If THREE costs the same as TWO (but increases at FOUR), then I list QUANTITY THREE...

If FOUR costs the same as TWO (but increases at FIVE), then I LIST QUANTITY FOUR!

YOU SAVE A TON OF MOOLA THIS WAY!

There must be a formula somewhere (ANYBODY KNOW WHERE?)to figure this out easier -- I just play around with the QUANTITY FIELDS in the SYI page...

If ya ever look at my listings, you'll see some are THREE & some are FOUR and some are FIVE -- this is WHY!

Why list just TWO, when it costs NO MORE to list THREE or FOUR? Right??

If they all sell, you saved a BUNDLE!

If none sell, ya didn't lose any more than if ya just listed TWO (but, yes, more than if ya just listed ONE)

What I have done to cut my cost is to stop using programs that cost too much money and use one that gives me the same service but cheaper.

For one thing I canceled Vendio it was costing me $60.00 a month and more some times. Now my new auction listing program only costs me 4.99 a month.

I canceled my Rubby Lane Store which was aprox 25.00 a month, I am not using the gallery anymore I save big time here, its like for one auction you list you could list another auction instead of using the gallery.

I have added $0.50 more to my handling fee which is always included in a flat shipping rate.

The money I just cut saves me $16.50 a week on 54 auctions and <br>$85.00 a month, add all this together it's a big saveings.

Teah, Tonimar, me & Ralphie considered going back to a "bare-bones" service (DZ??), but the thought of changing 180 listings has given poor ole Ralphie a severe case of GAS!

(THAT's where DUMBO should hunt for his WMDs!)!

Yes Tom I know exactly what your saying, it was not easy for me either but I did a lot of transfering of information (copy and paste) to hold on to this for my new site, but if you have the patience..........or when your with a little free time its not all that bad,.......it pays you back in the long run.

I think eBay might be worried about the current low sell thru rates as I just got a bunch of $5 off $24.99 eBay/PayPal coupons sent to me. Offer valid from 12:00:00 AM (PT) January 18, 2005 until 11:59:59 PM (PT) January 27, 2005...

Tom,
Here is your answer.

Insertion Fees
Starting or Reserve Price Insertion Fee
$0.01 - $0.99 $0.30
$1.00 - $9.99 $0.35
$10.00 - $24.99 $0.60
$25.00 - $49.99 $1.20
$50.00 - $199.99 $2.40
$200.00 - $499.99 $3.60
$500.00 or more $4.80

No matter how many items you list, the total value of the items is what you are charged for, not the number of items like at Yahoo.

So if you have an item that sells for $49.99, your fee for quantity one is $1.20. But if you have 2, 3, or 4 items, the fee is $2.40.

As long as you stay within the pricing tier that you are working in, you can list as many as you like. I use Fixed Price this way quite often.

Why THANK YOU VERY MUCH, STONE: THAT was exactly the explanation I needed

Embarassed that this didn't dawn on me at first!

REALLY saves a BUNDLE in insertion fees if one does a lot of FIXED-PRICE listings like me & my ugly dog do!

Maybe I could buy you a gunny sack to replace that sweater Ralphie destroyed. Then we would both be happy. Your pup would stay warm and I wouldn't have to see the ugly dog.
