I have been selling books on ebay for 5 years and putting all profits in a virtual piggy bank. Until now. Yesterday I emptied the piggy bank and paid cash for a Lexus. All it took was several thousand hours of listing, packing, and scrounging.

Congrats!! I'm not that good with the spending control that I would be able to save that much. There are too many little things I want.... I am buying myself this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43454&item=3867515890&rd=1 for Valentines Day.

Stop...I thought everyone knew the definition of profit. Profit is what you use to buy bubblewrap, and buy gas to drive to the Post Office if you don't have a handling charge built into your shipping. Hell, it can even be used to pay your Ebay, Paypal, and Vendio fees. It's very handy to have some in the bank.

Sparkz,,,,wink...yup.......I finally woke up one morning and realized that very thing....
You sell it for $9.99.......then the PO or UPS gets their cut,,,,ebay, pp and on, and YOU get yours. in the HANDLING fees....$9.99 safe,,,,packing fees will apply.....

with these E bay FEES going UP all these Ethics are going RIGHT out the window....CHARGE FOR YOUR WORK IN packing this stuff, it's not CHEAP or FREE to get MATERIALS. GAS. Time and LABOR.....You WORKED even if you found packing materials in a dumpster......

The dollar amount isn't nearly as impressive that you had the ability to put that money aside for so long.
Profit = Rent, car payment, food, etc.
I generally EAT my profits.
I guess it would be different if I had a regular second income.

Pelorus,
I think it's AWESOME that you paid CASH for a car! I hope someday that I can do that too. Probably not with ebay though, but the whole idea is to NOT be financially in debt. I'll be making payments on my van while you are driving your beautiful car, SCOTT FREE. I wonder how many crabbies on this board are driving a "Gorgeous" car without payments?

Great Job on your saving for the lexus. I like stories like this, it really inspires the smaller sellers to sell more and find the right product to make money.
I did not buy a lexus, but I did buy my first small rental home. I would rather invest the money I make on ebay sales on something else that will bring me more money so that I can reach my goal of retiring in 10 years.
Not bad, last year I purchased a big screen TV cash. This year was much better purchase a 20k house.

Jack, check out a little town in KY named Dawson Springs. It is where my Dad lives. You can buy houses there for 20k that don't even have wheels on them!
In rural AL you can still find them too, but theys gots wheels and I hate hav'n to jack up the house while DH changes the tar's and then there is always East St. Louey... you can buy the house for 20K but your yearly ammo bill for protection is gonna run you that much.

"classic-define suck"
when someone buys a car just for a status symbol,to show how rich they are-complete waste of money. My wife calls them a male penis, like those "Hummers" these idiots pay $55,000 for. These things look like crap and why anyone would pay $55,000 for a Hummer when you can get them at home for nothing is beyond me.You'd been better off buying a car that is more useful like a Masseratti. It goes 200mph and you can out run the fuzz on the next bank you rob.
"I agree Classic. Who would want to throy away good money on a lexus when you could get a Massey Ferguson for the wife instead?"
----------a what??-----
Stopwhinning-you're posts are confusing-on Jan 19th you posted "can you define profits??"
Then the VERY next day you posted
"I paid for my house and car with my Ebay profits" What does that mean? If you dont know what profits are,how did you pay for your house and car?
You have a CPA certificate? Your one dude I wouldnt want doing my taxes! LOL
"I wonder how many crabbies are driving a "gorgeous" car without payments"
-well I'll have you know I own 3 cars and they are ALL paid for-no car payments.A 1993 Cavelier,a 1997 Cavelier and a 1999 Cavelier...they also suck,for a different reason.
"my cat ate all my profits"
I can see that happening,my wifes siamese is a very fussy eater. The b*tch wants nothing but the best,as she barfs on store brand cat food.Hey I love cats...they taste just like chicken.
"here is what classicrock000 tells all of his friends. My vehicle is a Huffy."
Okay Stone, ya stumped me again..what is a Huffy-does GM make them ??
"not bad, last year I purchased a big screen TV cash. This year was much better purchased a 20K house"
I bet the big screen TV cost more then the house he put it in-whats wrong with this picture??(no pun intended)
"I will post when I pay cash for my next house "
I hate to say this Rob,but I dont think any of us will be here by then.
"BTW Classics defination of suck he something he wants but will never get"
Itray-thats VERY unfair.....I do remember the 70's.
