Since the recent addition to security on commercial flights, lighters cannot be brought on board or packed in your checked luggage.
When I asked the postal clerk, she didn't really know how this will apply to sending lighters by airmail.
She said they would probably have to go parcel post.
However, what about shipping lighters overseas?
They love Zippos in Japan.
Would sure appreciate any information or advise.
Thanking you in advance.

I believe that regulation only applies to carry on or checked baggage. It does not apply to freight or mail. However, I can see the possibility of a conflict between two government agencies here. Just make sure it's not fueled and has been left open for a week for any residual fuel to evaporate then put it in a ziplock bag before you pack it. Don't want to get those beagles too excited when they start sniffing the boxes. I've shipped camping equipment including Coleman stoves and lanterns to Japan with no problems.

Sparkz is right on. Also remove the flint so there is no danger of a spark. Be sure to put this in the customs declarationn.
