Been on ebay a decade ... and we get this "sort" of email all the time ... today got normal looking, "Question to Seller" but it was NOT regarding a current running listing ebay "number" in the Subject nor Body of message ... everything in the email, (of course sponsored thru ebay's Big Brother-lookin' correspondence) looked completely legit, and the question to us in the body of message, was "Will you ship to Canada" ....... as I said, no where in header or anywhere mentioned what "item" they were inquiring about so i WAS going to tell them "depends on what item you're inquiring about" ... of course there's the 'button' in the email to click here to send reply, but when i clicked on it, it wanted me to 'sign in' to ebay ............ but I happened to look and the address in my browser look very strange! (i normally wouldn't think to look at that in THIS situation, because the sign in page looked completely normal, although i knew i WAS "signed in, to ebay" but you all know how often ebay wants you to "sign in" every day" ... , a zillion characters long, starting with, "http://ssh012005.web.aplus.net/...."

... and I glanced up and did not "recognize" that as being anything i'd seen in my browser before" ... (but I gotta say, just this minute when I went back to my email to show all of you this, and clicked to see what that http:/ address was, it NOW shows "forbidden! - you don't have access to this blahblah" ... wow ... well, I was gonna tell y'all that I forwarded it to spoof@ebay before "signing in" and did not "answer" the sender's question yet ... ... got my 1st reply from ebay, of "thanks, we'll check it out and tell ya later, but here is ways to look for spoofs... ' ..

NOW that i see it's suddenly "forbidden" instead of a normal looking "sign in" page, I'm thinkin' it IS a realllllllllllly scary spoof, that coulda fooled me in a new york minute. even me, an old ebay 'salt', had I not glanced up at my browser address. ....... i am assuming i will hear from ebay's "2nd" reply to the spoof report affirming this ....

just wanted to let you all in on this ... I'm like, "omigod!" ...

I received a similar spoof last week. Reported it to Ebay and came back on 2nd e-mail that it was of course a spoof. I agree with you. New....and very scary.
.
.I also reported it here....and was shot down. Oh, that's been around for a long time, posters said. BS. It's new, and it is scary.

There are so many spoofs floating around out there, including the old ones, new twists on old ones and cleaver new ones, that I naturally assume any email that comes through "ebay's" servers is a spoof. The big problem is, that Ebay or Paypal will not publicly admit the extent of the problem. It seems like they try to sweep it under the rug. These spoofs actually represent a major fraud and identity theft problem that they will eventually have to come clean on. It's about time Meg faces the problem, and gets the Justice Department and the FBI involved and start prosecuting some of these perpetrators. Perhaps it's time to quit forwarding these spoofs to [email protected] or [email protected] and forward them to Elliot Spitzer instead. He seems like the only law enforcement officer left that has the huevos to confront organized white collar crime.
