I've listed items a couple of times that are strictly BIN, no bidding, and I have people putting a "watch" on the item. I had a few people bid at the very last minute on a BIN as if they are sniping it away from somebody. Do these people not understand BIN, or is there something I don't understand about BIN? Why do they wait? Hmmmmm! Anyone else seeing this happen? Thanks

One persons view.... I have about 60 items on watch right now, they are different auctions for about 6 different items. Some are auctions, some are BIN. I generally only jump on a BIN if it is priced lower than the item usually closes for at auction but as a general rule I wait and see what is happening at the end of the auction times. Most of the time I can get something cheaper from an auction but there are times that a BIN ends up being less.

If you want your BINs to go quickly, check the average closing price of like items and price yours less.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I am surprised at the number of watchers I have on my store items - all BINS. I don't know when people think would be the time to do the BIN or if they are just watching for the heck of it. Could be other sellers watching to see if you sell it at your price.

if they are watching store items, they could be buying them later, later when they have the funds available, later when they are in the mood ,later when they have cleared out their garage or closet, later when they have nothing else better to do.
so more later !!

I think people do that for the following reasons:

1) they can wait to see if someone else will offer it at a lower BIN
2) they have a bid pending on the same item in a standard auction
3) they watch it with no intent to buy (research purposes, competitor, etc)

I agree with sthoemke.
1. They put it on watch and then snipe at the very last second.
2. They watch to see if they even want to bid.
3. They have the exact same item and want to see what it sells for.

I do all of the above.

It's very simple, most people veiw searches by about to close, it's pure impulse buying as they are at the head of the list and the clock is ticking.

All the more reason that ebay needs to dump the watch feature. It clearly is taking sales away from sellers.

Stone - the only time I think that is true is when the items in question waon't survive a few hours of contemplation. If your merch is worthwhile, it's going to sell. If however you are just hoping to shove it down someones throat before they get the chance to change their mind, you might be right.
