I am thinking of taking some time off from selling due to some health reasons, and since sells are slow now, thought this would be a good time to do it. I can do the items as I can for my auctions so they can be listed when I am ready. However I am not sure just what I should do for my website. I thought about putting something like "Temporarily not taking orders due to health reasons..." or saying something like that... I have a lot of pages on my web site. Should I state something on each page, or just my index page. My site is listed in many search engines, so different pages comes up depending on the item searched, but I am not sure if a note on each page is needed or not. Thought someone here should know what would be good to do.
Thanks,
Pattie

I would make note of it on your first page. You can change the name of your other pages by adding something at the end of the page's saved name. Like: http://mywebsite.com/jewelryA ("A" being what you added). That way your links will be temporarily inactive. Just remove what you've added when you want them to work again. In your notice, I would make sure they know this is temporary and ask them to email you if they want to be notified once you are back up and running. Every now and again, post a site update. You want to keep people coming back to check. After a while of the same notice being up, people will stop coming by. Keep them informed.

I hope your health concerns aren't too serious. Heaven knows we've had a lot of that around here lately.

Thank you Cheryl,
This all makes sense. I have just been so busy with taking my husband back and forth to the hospital and doctors everyday...and then taking care of my son (he's recovering from brain surgery from cancer)...so my mind doesn't work too well lately...not that it ever did..Ha!.., but not much sleep slows the body down...Anyway for awhile I just need the time to not be too commited to sells, and have the time for my family. I just can't stand to not be able to put in 100% to folks orders, questions, emails, etc. So far I have had an excellant reputation, and that's important for me to keep that up. If I can't treat my customers as I would like to be treated, then it is time to take a break. During this slow season this is a perfect time to do that. Plus I need to be able to get my strength back to pour the ceramics. I pour, clean, and fire ceramics, and some of the molds weight nearly 50lbs when full, and 45 pounds when empty...wow! Heavy job, but I love it when things are good. Anyway guess I should go...just been sitting hear eating my steak and baked potatoe so thought I would read the posts here....Lots of good and helpful people here....love what can be shared...
Good luck to all on your sells,
Pattie

I would put a very visable note on the front page that states that you are taking some time off this summer to deal with a family emergency and replenish your creative juices but to fear not that you will be back soon ready and raring to go. Then put a link to a mailing list for people who want to be notified of your return. I would also put together some gallery photos for people to cruise thru and invite visitors to take a look at them as long as they are there on your site.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

Great idea about the mailing list for your return! I would make sure all pages on your website contain the message, as sometimes a link will take a browser to a cached web page (hope that was technically correct!) I wish you the best - I lost my dad last summer and needed to take a few months off from all this - just now getting back up and running. My best to you...
