Jake's rally came to a sudden end tonight. He now resides under the apple tree in my wife's parents backyard well into the hills here in NY. I will miss him forever. We actually had a small service for him during his burial as my wife's mom is very involved in the church. She does prayer services in local hospitals for terminally ill people so she more than happy to have a little service for Jake with myself, my wife Renee and her husband John....holy water and all.. Jake will live on through his companion Ringo who is also dear to us. Thanks for the well wishes in the previous thread concerning him. Dont forget to appreciate every moment with your furry friends in thier living years.....Chris

I'm sorry for the pain of you losing a good companion to you, micmic. I always think when I die, I will get to see all those gone before me again, including my beloved pets. I'm sorry.

oh I'm so sorry for you Chris.

All of us and Jake knows how much you love and cared for him.

I'll give my two Yorkies an extra hug tonight.

So sorry Chris...Wish there was something we could all say to make you feel better. Pets hold such a special place in our hearts because they love us no matter what. I'm sure Jake knew you loved him and one day I truly believe we'll join our family and pets in heaven.

Oh Chris! So sorry to learn about Jake. It's so hard to let a pet go. It sounds like he led a happy life, loved well and was well loved in return - a dog (and a human too) can't ask for more than that. Safe journey Jake! Mary Ann

I'm sorry for your loss, Chris. Many of us have or have had the pleasure of sharing the honest and special friendships offered freely by our pets. Sadly, sometimes all-too-briefly.

Chris, what a lovely thing to do for Jake.
It made me cry. I know others here also shed some tears along with you & Renee because we do understand what your going through & share your pain. We all love animals so much.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Chris.
I know you will miss him.
Ringo will need some special love right now too, so take him for an extra run or car ride. They grieve just like we do!
Feel comfort in knowing that you did everything you could for Jake and he is now at peace.

So sorry to hear about Jake. It is so hard to lose a pet, and they leave a big hole in your heart. Take comfort in the thought that he was loved and cared for in his life by you and your family.

Thanks everyone, I really mean that. Thanks for the link Tom. Ringo is also bumming big time. We plan on doing lots of things with him in the comming months/years. Of course there will be a new addition in FEB so maybe his new best friend will be the baby!

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

My heart goes out to you. Losing a pet is hard ! The grief and loss is not easily understood by those with no "nonhuman" family members.

It is normal and healthy to grieve.
The funeral service for Jake reminds me of my sisters and me when we were kids. We had an "elaborate" service for our Muffy when he died,he was almost 15 years old. He was the first "child" so we had Muffy all our lives until he died. We picked all Moms' flowers , had daddy to build a box etc.

Sorry about Jake. I was hoping he would get through it. Having lost Buster just recently even though we only had him for about 3 1/2 weeks, he still was a part of our family. So I know how hard it is. Now his sister is sick with the same virus but not as severe as he had it. She is eating but she still is breathing hard on occasion. We are praying she will get better soon. She still has the eye problem too. I think the service you had for Jake was great. He was looking down on you all with a doggy smile.

Chris,
I am so sorry to hear this news. Things like this make us remember those loved ones we have lost. Miss Chris and Lovey are buried near our gardens, marble tombstones (from an estate sale), flowers and all. The stones read "O.D." for "Old dog" and "G.D." for "g-d cat". Chris was a beautiful white German Shepherd, almost 14 years and the best dog anyone could ask for. Lovey was an SPCA rescue, got really crabby over time (cattitude) and was 16 years.

Now I'm gonna cry...

MICMIC, I am so sorry for your loss. I would have responded sooner, but the memory of lossing our dear Lab Sandy 2 years ago kept making me cry every time I read your post.

She had problems similar to Jake's. We miss her dearly but can at least find a little comfort in knowing she is not suffering any longer.

Just know that Jake will always be with you, and in his present form he doesn't suffer.

Di and Larry
