Bot a box of old postcards this morning at a yard sale. Some had some writing on them dated 1914. Lots from France, Germany, the Keys, Canada. Some are in book form. I know nothing about them, but they sure are interesting. Is there a way to find out when they were printed? Is there a website I can go to and find out more info. Thanks

Niel - Lucky you! I should be so lucky!

This is quick and dirty dating guide:

If the postcard only allows the address on the back (called Undivided Back udb) in Europe it dates circa 1900 and US between 1900-1906

Probably the French ones all date to 1910-1920 and were brought back by WWI soldiers. THere were lots of booklets printed at that as souvenirs for the soldiers.

US cards without borders and divided backs and printed in Germany date 1907-1917 (WWI began and then no more cards from Germany)

US cards with white borders but no weave date 1915-1935

US cards with linen weave date 1935-1955

The shiny "chrome" cards we see now were first issued around 1948 and are still in use today.

Real Photo Postcards are actual photographs printed on postcard backs and the stamp box can be used to date the card if you have any of those.

Thanks so much Neglus for your help. Not sure what a "weave date" is. There are about 500 or more of them and some were written to the people who owned them and have a postmark with a date. Maybe the stamps are worth something also. Some she addressed, stamped and never mailed. they belonged to the inlaws of the fellow I bot them from and he looked to be in his 70's.

Sorry Niel - I was in a hurry and wrote that wrong.

Linen cards have a characteristic "weave" to them (like linen fabric)and date between 1935-1955. The 1920-1935 postcards had white borders but did not use this "weaved" paperstock.

Lucky you! My little sis (not Neglus) struck gold (and emeralds) at an estate sale last weekend with these signed pieces (I lifted images off of the designers website), He has the set priced at over $1000 - The set included a much nicer chain than the one shown. She paid $45 for the set.

Nice finds ! I got a beautiful Handmade in Alaska silver and turquoise cuff bracelet(great Christmas present for Amanda) and picked another mavica, this one is a older one FD75 but came with 4 batteries so I couldn't go wrong for 25.00. Heres a pic of the bracelet took with the camera ...bracelet needs cleaning but she'll love it.

I like the pendant, too, but the earrings really steal the show (even though they are 14K and the pendant is 18K). My sis has fat lobes and the 3D hanging/swinging effect is amazing - much better than the photo.
