I have 2 boxes that are 19x19x28" and weight 18 lbs. I want to ship them parcel post but I can't figure out if I'm doing it correctly.
When I go to the USPS website and put all the information in I get $27 and some change. It says it includes the balloon rate and the non machinable rate. When I go to paypal and try to pay and print a label - I get $24 unless I mark that it's a large package or irregular - then I get $122. Yikes - I've got 2 packages going to the same zip. I can't afford to eat that much postage.
I wanted to get them ready and have my husband drop them off for me but I'm afraid to do anything with this kind of difference.
Would they charge the customer if I'm wrong? That won't be good on my DSR's.

I gave up on Parcel Post. I ship anything over 3# Fedex. Your local Kinkos is the nearest drop off.

You would mark large package not irregular. It is not irregular. That would refer to odd shaped boxes. That's why you are getting $122.

It's been my experience that packages come back to me if I don't put enough postage on them. I'd trust USPS more than PayPal at this point.

Cheryl - I tried it both way - large or irregular and it came to $122 both ways.
Max - I'll check UPS too but DHL was too high so I would think they are as well.

I have a question-when you print a shipping label on internet and paste it to the package, does your local post office check to see if it has the right postage ?
The reason why I ask is that my post office will sit and add up the stamps on my package ,if I am 10 cents short, they will return the package back to me ,but they never do it with any package with label printed online.
So how does the post office know if we are paying the correct postage?

eBabe: Your package is large, but not extra large. The only way I get your figure with your weight is if I check EXTRA large, rather than large. Large is under $30 from SC to CA. (I just did this with an old order and address through PP's screens).

hwahwa: Post office may check your listed weight and class. If that's correct, you can't underpay when printing on line.

Yeah UPS is higher $61 each. DHL was $55 but I only charged $35 each box including packing. So if I can't ship Parcel Post - I'll have to return her money.
This is really a mess. I just started using Parcel Post calculated in my listing for large package and now I don't know if they are getting the correct shipping amount quoted or not.
I'm just about to gave up on ebay - it's just getting too hard!!!

birgittaw - Thanks - I must have missed that and check extra large. Maybe I won't have to quit ebay after all.
It still quotes a different amount than the USPS website but it's lower so I won't worry about it.

Why not just take it to the PO and have them weigh it and measure it and then send it. I will only cost you for the DC, seems like a lot less aggravation than what you have been going through.

If it comes out to be the way high postage you are getting, just bring it home and explain it to your customer.

Merrie - my husband was taking them to the post office and he doesn't like to stand in line.
However for this order he did and they these two boxes were fine.
I also had another one that was 15 lbs and 34"x30"x4". The USPS website stated shipping at $27 - paypal charged $24 but at the post office it was $130. Needless to say we shipped it DHL for around $20. I guess you can't trust the USPS website either.

ebabe: You are right, there are so many variables and if truth be told, so many incompetents it is hard to figure these things out. What a headache!!
