Well, I was hoping buyers would be mature enough to handle the new feedback changes, I guess I was wrong - in the past 3 weeks I managed to get 3 negatives and 2 neutrals - out of those, only 1 was valid. In the past 4 years, I averaged 4-6 negatives per year!

I already replied to the feedback stating my side - hopefully it sounded professional. Anybody else getting slammed this bad?

Only had one deadbeat bidder leave a neg so far. "Bad Seller"

I wouldn't worry too much about it. In 365 days, the negs (or neutrals) won't count in the feedback percentage.

One was from a deadbeat bidder - I relisted the item with a bin and he hit the roof when he saw the that the BIN price was more than he could have bought it for had he paid for his no reserve auction - he claimed fraud and slammed me for not waiting longer for his payment. After 10 days he had sent an email saying he would pay when he sold something, but I had already relisted.

"What we discovered through research was that any negative feedback that the buyer gets reduces their purchasing or willingness to purchase within the marketplace," Brian Burke, eBay's director of global feedback policy told CNN. "The goal behind the changes is really to make sure that we've got buyer accountability and seller accountability."

Buyer accountability is really not a consideration now.

I suppose in order to cope and maintain good feedback we will need to be a little more patient with buyers. I've sold books for several years without either receiving or giving a negative or neutral feedback. The only way to maintain a good feedback record is to be especially patient, considerate and responsive to emails.

With the new policy there are lots of items that I would avoid selling because there is no buyer accountability and I'm sure that many sellers agree. I wonder if Ebay's director of global feedback considered that ramification of his new policy.

Yea, we wouldn't want to lower their self-esteem.

LOL, Max.

Surely? Surely! Enough sellers are screaming about the changes in feedback that MAYBE, SOMEDAY, eBay will change their minds??? Should we start prayer circles to effect that change?

I really think that there are some people out there that will now leave negative feedback, just because they can, with no fear of reprisals.

Yeah Amber - I got one that did just that. It was a neutral but she must have given me 3's or lower in all the DSRs. The item was broken in the mail and she implied that I broke it and shipped it anyway. She never said one single word until the neutral. It was fully insured too. 2400 FB with no negatives or neutrals until she left me that.
Now my Dashboard shows LOWER in search and after 10 years of 100% FB ebay now says I need to work on my customer satisfaction. I say they can stick their customer satisfaction where the sun don't shine.
I've had 3 returns this month and I averaged 1 a year before. My sales are in the toilet as well.
I'm sending a certified letter to ebay regarding my disguise with their new policies. I know it will do no good at all but it will make me feel better to vent. They can add it to their pile.

This was one of PAYPALS failure to notify me via email about payment. Yes, I know I can print and check through PAYPAL, but selling on several different sites, logging in and checking e-mails for ALL is MUCH easier then going to EACH payment site.

lady, I think we need to hound eBay every time we get a unfair neg (a neutral is a neg), hopefully they will get tired of it and change things back the way they were.

Ebay has redefined the word "neutral". According to Ebay, "neutral" now means "negative".

I'm not getting any negatives or neutrals but I have a funny feeling that when someone doesn't like the plot of the movie they bought they ding my stars. They make remarks about it in the feedback but still are leaving a positive so far.

I have an idea! What if eBay just had "positive" or "negative" choices for buyers? That would make it more of a clear choice and perhaps stop some buyers from leaving that Negative Formerly Known as Neutral.

Positive or Negative.....far too simple a concept for the folks at EBay to grasp.

They prefer to change the Dictionary definition of 'Neutral' because they feel it makes for a better 'Buyer Experience'.

Okay guys, I need some ideas for a sign series...

The eBay 2008 Dictionary

neutral = negative

4 of 5 = a failing grade

buyer accountability test = a valid credit card

Up = Down

You know you have more...

We are only a venue = we will micromanage you to death.

Level playing field = sellers cannot leave negatives for buyers, but buyers can leave negatives for sellers.

When we all get enough undeserved negs our sales and/or bid amounts will drop & we are a few out of millions.
We lose money, eBay loses money. An all around bad situation that will surely backfire on them with this new FB rule.

When buying I'm more interested in the sellers FB than I am in the item.

Ebay call me yesterday to offer help on how to improve my "Customer Satisfaction".
Let's just say - I doubt they will call me again!!! I was very polite but I spent 30 minutes telling them what was wrong with this new system.
One thing she said was that I should report my neutral to Safety & Security. No promise that it would be removed but if they get more reports on "this" buyer, she will get kicked off of ebay. She said they are still keeping track. So, like Amber said, we should report them.
She did say that a neutral is 1/2 a point and a negative is a whole point on the FB.

ladyjewels... the rep you talked to outright lied to you then.... check out the "how is feedback calculated?" link next to your feedback number in your profile. It clearly shows that your feedback is calculated by:

(positives) / (positives + negatives + neutrals)

If what your rep told you was correct, then the formula would be:

(positives) / (positives + negatives + (neutrals/2))

Of course... that's what happens when you change so many policies so frequently... your own employees can't keep up. I guess eBay's modeling themselves after the highly successful business practices of the USPS.

eauction: "I guess eBay's modeling themselves after the highly successful business practices of the USPS."

Reminds me of a story: Years ago when we lived in Northern Utah, I went to Salt Lake City for a big antiques show in a huge building next to the post office.

Got into the crowded elevator, and we were all going to the show on the 4th floor. One of the men turned to face us and said, "Is this the way to the postal employees' gun show?" We hooted.

I believe the outbound telemarketers who call you are not eBay employees. I'm pretty sure eBay hires another company to do this outreach service. Think large call center located in a depressed area of the country like West Virginia. Or even isolated workers dialing from home in between changing diapers and answering the doorbell.

Full-time eBay employees are much too busy perfecting their rectocranial inversion skills, not to mention much too well-paid, to actually communicate with their customers.
