Since top executives often receive stock and/or options as a significant part of their compensation, at some point it does have to be sold (or otherwise disposed of).

The timing could be due to tax implications, holding periods, etc., and in spite of the opinions of this crowd, probably not being done on direct orders from Satan.

Actually the most intersting part of it is when they sold most of their stock.

Most of it was when they were still in charge. And not be a day or two.

One company I worked for allowed us to sell out company stock at no or minimal commission; if that is in place as part of their option contract it could influence timing of sales.
