I've been getting this message on my computer for the last week, off & on.

After a few tries it will boot up, but I'm sure the day is coming when it will not.
I have a Compaq Presario 2700T notebook with Windows XP, bought it in 2003. I have Verizon fios, but always sign on with AOL because I have a free AOL email address & prefer it. I use IE.

I can find the BIOS, Greek to me what it is though. I read om Google that you should go to the CMOS setup screen & tell it to autodetect the hard drive & load setup defaults, hit save & exit. Shut down & then coldboot.

I have no idea how to find CMOS, anyone know how to get to it so I could try this.

Is this fixable or should I get a new computer.

Probably a dumb question: If I decide to get a MAX can I use AOL for my ISP?

What I know about computers you can put in a thimble.
One more question, is it a good idea to never turn off your computer. I know some people that never shut down.

if you are reading this...your computer is working for now. Here is a good link with information.

http://murfsgarage.cybertechhelp.com/setup.htm

I have always sworn by NORTON'S. I have used it for YEARS now and never had computer failures. They are changing and it is NOT the best anymore, but one of them that you may want to invest in is NORTON'S SYSTEMSWORKS. This program has a feature on it that FINDS & CORRECTS problems with your WINDOWS operating system. If you know someone that has it, borrow their disc, you can run the programs from the disc without installing them on your computer. Actually have to do that now, because Norton's has seperated their 360 program and Systemworks...can't have both on same computer. Good luck...and don't believe the tech guys when they say they need to wipe your hard drive....that is BS..they just don't know the answer to the problem.

In case you haven't already done so, now might be a good time to back up your important data and photos "just in case". You can purchase a Firelite or similar external hard drive fairly inexpensively at Best Buy etc.

May be you will find the information helpful
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/mbsys/bios/compCMOS-c.html
Compaq/HP has a technical support line in India ,I tried it a few times with my old compaq PC ,I paid like 35 dollars and they will help you until problem is solved or your money back.
That was a few years ago.

without any research it sounds like your hard drive is going bad. you can replace the hard drive but then shortly after that your mother board or your lcd screen is sure to go out on you. with the price of lap tops now is easier to get a new one....except you missed out on the XP cut off date. You can still get a Vista Premium that allows you to downgrade to XP.

And then there's that MAX. somebody will be along here soon to point out that I'm sure you meant Mac but it was probably before your first cup of coffee.

Find somehow sooner than soon to back up your essentials! Emails, pics - that sort of thing.

2003 is really not an old computer so I wouldn't toss it. The one I'm running at work is from 1998. It works just fine. Have you tried reinstalling your operating system? I know it's a real PITA, but there comes a time when you have to do it. Windows is notorious for throwing files on your computer that bog it down. Operating System Not Found can be as simple as a OS file that's becoming corrupt. Before you toss it out and invest in a new one that will come with Vista, back up all your files and try reinstalling the OS. Most of the time that will do the trick.

You might also try a system restore first.

It's my understanding the Vendio does not support/work with a MAC System, which is very sad, Ive found the latest version of MAC to be far supieor to the windows operating system. NO Norton Antivirus or any Antivirus programs required with a AMC.

Ahem, first of all, please, it's Mac. Not MAC. MAC stands for Media Access Control. Mac is short for Macintosh, a computer made by Apple. I don't know why so many people needlessly insist on overusing their caplock keys when referring to Macintoshes.

You can certainly use AOL for your ISP on a Mac, although another thread could probably stretch on way out there about why in the world you'd want to do that.

I don't know about Vendio. Fluffy might know, she uses Macs now and then. Personally, if something won't work with my Macs, I say bye bye. There is no reason in the world for websites to be operating system-centric and those that do are shortsighted penny pinchers and don't deserve to be supported in my opinion.

Given that your operating system won't just up and decide to play hide and seek with you, and that you'll never need antivirus protection or any of the other 3rd party nonsense that windows requires, and you won't ever be wishing you could go back to an OLDER system the way Vista users are doing when they pine away for XP, you'll never regret switching to a Mac, even if Vendio won't work.

My error on caps lock. It should have been Mac. There seems to be several listing services that don't work with Mac.
Ive gone to Ink Frog that seems to work well with my Mac.

Is MAC hard to master? I have tried to be positive ..... but the blatant truth is >>>

I HATE Vista.

I know I will have to stay with Windows.
I wish I would have known how many troublesome hours I would have on Vista, when buying a new PC and Laptop 8 months ago.

I was going to order a Dell while they still had XP, but missed it.

I just bought a new computer from Walmart for 298.00 plus tax. Its an E Machine Desktop W3644 XP. I didn't want Vista after I heard about all the problems.

Everything is working great and am happy with it.

I haven't had any problems with my Mac. But Vendio does not work on a Mac. It isn't much different from Windows to operate just a few things.

Is MAC hard to master?..

The Mac operating system is much more intuitive than Windows. I own computers with both systems. Things just work. It will recognize your printer, scanner, fax and digital camera right out of the box, and you won't need any prophylactics to keep you from getting any diseases. You will get much more built in in the way of software and system enhancements for your dollar, but you won't get one for 300 bucks. If out the door price is your main consideration rather than what you get for your money, buy a different make.

I should mention that I'm typing this on my main (but not newest) computer. It's a Power Macintosh tower that I bought new in 1998. It runs the latest Mac OS, burns DVD's and CD's and can process my photos and Mpeg movies without a hiccup. It lives in my barn office which is full of dust and dirt and is unheated in the winter and uncooled in the summer. It keeps all my ranch books and serves as a file server for my computers in the house. It runs 24 hours a day and currently has been up since our last power outage in February. I paid 2695 dollars for it 10 years ago. In that time I have had one Dell desktop and one IBM laptop take fatal craps after only a few years. Hard to beat that cost, even tho' the initial outlay was high.

I have mAc and Dell XP.

Vendio works on a mAc but you can't use the html DooHickey when editing a description. But otherwise I launched some auctions from inventory yesterday on my mAc and no problems.

For some people.

Things just work.

For some people. There are several things that have never worked on my Mac Mini, but since I only use it for browsing, iTunes and watching videos (a LOT of videos), it doesn't matter.

I do have a workhorse G4 Tower with a 17 inch Studio Display. I use it pretty much constantly. Bought it in 2001.

The real go-to machine of the fleet, though, is my Dell Latitude D520 running XP.

Fluffy might know, she uses Macs now and then.

Heh. You could say that. But I don't use Vendio.

The next computer purchase is probably going to be the 24 inch iMac, to replace the G4 Tower.

I'm off Mac laptops, probably for life. I have too many of them sitting around unused.
