Hi I haven't listed anything since May. How are sales? I have been putting things on my web site and thinking maybe I should try a few ebay listings. How's business? Thanks in advance.

I haven't listed new items during July or August but I started listing again the beginning of Sept and I'm very happy with the sales and with the amount of watchers and the multiple bids I've gotten.

It's the way it use to be for me and that's a good sign. I'm not sure if it depends also on what you sell but I would say this is the time to get back to selling.

So far this late summer has been spotty at best. I'm glad I have my website, otherwise I would have had a very bad late summer.

I was very pleasantly surprised last week...I'd re-listed 12 items (I'm strictly a small-time seller) that hadn't sold in the preceding weeks. All but one sold and for decent prices and, a couple, for more than I'd expected. So, for me, sales were good.

I can't see much change over the summer but
September has always been one of my best months - I'll let you know in a few weeks.

Not bad, an occasional pleasant surprise (from international buyers). Hard to tell what kind of an avalanche will take place next week when the 30 day fixed price 35c listings start. Imagine we'll have a glut of store items moved into core -- and coupled with Best Match, who knows?

It starts on September 16th.

Here is a link to the general announcement from Lorrie Norrington:

Here is a link to the now closed 8/20 announcements discussion board:

Lots of good info about all the changes can be found in the anchored threads.

Clarification, since the board is now closed I guess all the threads could be considered anchored.

I meant the eight threads started by Pinks that are at the top.

Thanks Zippy... I guess I'll launch some this evening and get ahead of the curve.

My sales are half of what they were, but I suspect that my efforts are less than half of what they were. Innovative disruption with wondering what will fall next has had a demotivating effect on me - a feeling that no way am I in control of my business and I honestly can't determine a business plan to follow except to find an exit strategy (which I have been concentrating on).

Sales is down

I think that the problem is only the tests and the new changes in ebay.

I have good days and bad days (more bad days than good unfortunately). I have been doing ebay light this summer - listing about 1/2 of normal in core and sales reflect that though I still have the same number of items in my store. I am convinced that I HAVE to list a certain number of items in Core in order to have consistent sales. You just can't put things in your store or they WILL be hidden.

The ebay tests are also having an impact I think. Some days I get lots of bids on newly listed items, some days bids only come on ending soonest. I think they experiment with default displays and we are not aware of this. My international sales have been good lately but were terrible all Spring and Fall. I think they experiment with international visibility as well.

In short, it's a crap shoot- very hard to have a business plan. Looming in the background is all of the revision I have to do to 9,000 store items to comply with ebay changes. Some days I dabble a little in trying to revise items, list items to store and list new items in core. It's hard to get going on any one thing - I feel like I am ADD - start on one thing and then go to another. I am in no way as efficient as I was 6 months ago!

For me, I'm afraid there doesn't seem to be any option but to change my business plan.
I am going for my own web site, and listing on other venues.
I have been visiting the auction site counts on powersellersunite.com and it's interesting to see the sites that are increasing their listings and those that are not.
It's a daily count and I am sure that many ebay sellers are trying these alternate sites.
When you have a company like ebay that was built on a core idea and the management is trying to turn the company around to be like another company, (read Amazon), then you know that as a long time ebay seller you have to try something different, or you will be out of business.
The good news is that is gets sellers out of their rut and, who knows, it could be better than ebay.

Instead of blaming Ebay, why not pick up a newspaper and read all the layoff going on- Starbuck closing 600 stores and laying off 12,000 people.
Lehman Brothers just layoff another 1500 people, some airline 350 pilots, what about people at Bear Stearns,Citicorp,Countrywide Fiancial ,Washington Mutual,Wachovia, and all the builders ?
Headhunters are not returning phone calls, they have too many resumes and not enough time to read them.
Ditto with Human resources and Dept managers who have job openings to fill, they are drowning in resumes!
