Has anyone here installed this yet? Any problems? Has the installation made anything run smoother??

Here is info on Vista Service Pack 1 from people who have installed it. It might help you to decide what to do.
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1992&SiteID=17

I know that for my XP there is a service pack 3 that needs to be installed but I won't do it because there are too many problems that happen once you download it. I'm sure I could do without it until they fix all the problems.

I have Vista on my laptop. Thought I'd hate it, but I love it. It's far quicker than XP and less bogged down. Apple's commercial is such a crock. I just got the computer a week ago so I don't know which service pack it came with. However, it's set to automatically download updates so it is up-to-date. No problems at all!

Can you upload pics in bulk to Vendio?

Pixi: You've asked the big question that I need to have answered. I'll look at the link posted above and see if there's any information. That has been such a sticking point for me. When I have 100 or so photos to upload in bulk, I have to take a disk into my husband's office etc. etc. A pain in the neck. And elsewhere.

pixiamom and roadsmith,

Unfortunately Microsoft decided to do away with the web publishing wizard when they went to Vista, which killed the XP Publisher for all third party applications that made apps for it. (like Vendio)

There *might* be a way to make something that works with the Vista OS, but from what ive read on it the Vista hacked version of that XP publisher lacks any resizing options (which for me defeats its usefulness right there, since my pics are all around 2m each.)

As we work towards a new listing tool in Vendio (no eta yet) we hope to address the need for a bulk uploader across all platforms. (ideally something triggered via a browser interface, but still allowing for bulk uploading and resizing.)

Regards,
Chris

Edit to add:
Service packs usually address security issues, so even if some users have trouble with them, its usually a good idea to load them. Keep in mind that only those with issues usually post about their experiences, so the internet perception is always going to come across more negatively than is experienced in real life.

I will say again that I love Vista. It's on my laptop and it's far faster than my desktop. I have access to my computer at home from the laptop on the road and it was easier to set up than XP. I have all the updates installed. It comes with a built in spyware program and other programs to protect you from the graphic that sthoemke provided in this thread. Apple's commercials are a bunch of bunk, IMHO.

Oh, and all the programs I have that ran on my XP are running on my Vista without one single problem. I don't worry about bulk uploading of photos because I use GoDaddy to host my photos and bulk upload via an FTP program.

Cheryl, I think you got lucky. I bought a new PC some months ago and have had tons of headaches with Vista. enough that I have been seriously considering enduring the Apple learning curve.

Cheryl, your experience with Vista is fortunate, but doesn't seem to match up with the experiences of millions of others. If it did, you wouldn't find all the Windows boards jammed with complaints, and you certainly wouldn't see any of the companies who are now retrofitting new machines with XP. That your new machine came with all those extra add ons that are needed to protect it is evidence that Apple's ads aren't bunk at all. Macs don't need that kind of protection. Never have. I have 4 Macs that run 24 hours a day and only shut down when the power goes out. No anti-anything programs and no firewall. Never sick. I also have a Dell that has XP on it, but it runs Linux because I got sick and tired of it's constant battle with malware and viruses, not to mention all the silly service paks and crashes.
It's good that you're happy with your PC.

LtRay, anyone can master a Mac. The learning curve isn't steep. You'll be amazed at how intuitive the operating system is.

or there's always a torrent or two around and you can make those Vista headaches go away

I tried a Mac out not too long ago - couldn't tell anything too terribly hard about it.

It didn't have Adblock Plus though and I was like "Eewh what is THAT? I'll take my Firefox any day thank you."

I say the same thing about Google Chrome - pretty but once you get use to the no blinking ad thingy that's hard do without.

glassgirl, Firefox is available for Macintosh. I'm using it now. As far as the Mac browser goes, Safari has a "block pop ups" feature built in that works very well.

I can't STAND Vista - like others mentioned, it eliminated the publishing tool which has caused a heck of a lot of extra work for me. There is a workaround, as Chris mentioned - you can google Web publishing tool Vista and find some instructions, but they involve going in and changing the registry - a little complicated for me - and they don't resize.

I don't understand why they make changes that anger their customers so much and cause such an outcry - kind of sounds like Ebay.

Can't you just resize in IRFAN or photo editing program and upload the way we did before they had the uploader? Vendio makes it easy to add rows so you can actually upload a lot of images quickly.
