Just wonder?
If you do,how does it compare to selling gold to a jeweler or refiner?
It seems Ebay bidder would not pay more than spot price and the seller has to pay Ebay FVF and Paypal fee?

I've done it many times and I always did very well.
I used to do it when they had the $20 FVF listings. I think we got so many a month or something like that.
I would always start it at 75% of scrap and it usually would end up at something like 90-95%.
I took a friend to a local antique dealer (estates sales and such)to sell her gold. He offered her something like $200 which she didn't take. She used my system to sell it on ebay and got $350.
The same buyer got almost all of mine.

thanks for the information.
Going to a retail jeweler does not get you the best price, unless he does a lot of business with the refiner or scrap dealer, cut out as many middleman as you can such as Ebay, retail jeweler and even the scrap dealer if there is a refiner in town.

As part of a story a local TV reporter took a bunch or gold items to one of those places that set in hotel rooms for an estimate.
then she sent the same items off to a mail order company for pricing which was about the same as the hotel crooks.
Next she had a friend take the collection to a local coin dealer who buys gold and silver, because she thought the dealer might know who she was. His price for her collection was more than twice what the other two offered. In her collection she had a ringer a broach of real stones set in platinum. The coin dealer offered her several 100 dollars for it. the hotel and mail order company offered almost nothing calling it an interesting costume piece. So you just never know!

It also depends on whom the buyer deals with, some refiners would not take gold jewelry paved with diamond,it would take time for them to remove it.
Precious or semi precious stones they dont have expertise to evaluate/appraise/resell.
Some jewelers may not want to hold certain jewelry in stock if there is little demand for them .

The whole gist of the reporters article was the local coin dealer was paying near top dollar for scrap gold while the traveling co. and the mail order Co. paid around 30-40%.
All 3 had a process facility.
