ABC reported that the Search & Rescue dogs are going through paw booties so quickly, they are running short. They've tried wrapping the dogs' legs and paws in burlap, but it slows them down.

If you do send, they said to sepcify on the package that it's intended as Search & Rescue supplies.

I saw those wonderful dogs on tv today. When I saw the second news clip, they were lying down, tongues hanging out...exhausted. They're working as hard as those firemen.

I didn't see if they were responsible for the rescuing of those firemen today or not. But I bet they are a tremendous help.

I saw on the evening news that a company (didn't catch the name) is frantically making booties to donate to the dogs.

LindaK,

If you are referring to the firemen supposedly found in the SUV, I'm sorry, but, according to CNN, that was a false story.

I heard just recently on the news that they are also using search cats. I can't imagine that. Wonder if they need booties too?

femme - I don't know if that was the same one I heard about or not, but I didn't hear anything about a SUV.

We've been channel flipping so I really can't remember which channel it was, but I just asked my hubby if he had heard what I had heard and he says there were two firemen that were rescued (pulled out today). I heard the news and people were 'cheering' about the rescue.

I know what you mean though....all these different reports. Heard 4,000 + are still missing or unaccounted for. Hope it's not just wishful thinking.

I spoke to the NYC ASPCA late in the afternoon and they referred me to a large pet supply company in the midwest. I wanted to purchase some of the booties in bulk.

I asked the customer rep if they would match what I purchased (and send double my amount). The rep put me on hold for about 5 minutes and came back to say that a paw bootie company (I think their name is Muttluk) had offered to send a huge supply of booties. Instead I purchased leads and electrolytes to send, which she said the dogs also needed.

I don't know...there's something special about those dogs going about their work, loyally, without asking for anything in return. They should be honored as much as the firemen/women and other rescue workers.

I once had the chance to talk to one of the rescue dog handlers that were in OK City. She told me that the dogs were getting depressed after a few days at not finding anyone alive. Voluteers would go into the rubble, and hide...just so the dogs could find them. Who says animals don't have souls?????

CNN just reported that they're in desperate need of dog food. Contact your local SPCA to see if they can help. Heck, if nothing else, they need food for the animals too...

Rescue cats??? Heck, the only way my cat would look for someone was if they had an open can of Iams in their pocket!
