A few ways that lurking and occasionally posting here has affected me:

1. I don't believe anything anyone says to me anymore unless I confirm it here.

2. Check all rumor email with snopes.com

3. Paranoia

4. Itchy head! (Thanks alot tigress )

I'm sure I'll think of more.......

Rhonda

Reading these threads reminds me of how much I miss an informal group of artists and writers who used to get together once a month to have a beer and discuss art and politics. We always had heated discussions. It was a good group where anything could be argued and no one got mad (other than being impassioned about an issue).

Heck, I tune in here before CNN. What does THAT tell you?

I have been known to tell my friends who are without tv at work to just check the RT .... up to the minute reporting

The really unique thing I have noticed here is we not only get the CNN story, we also get the local news stuff that is usually hushed up..

After all, enquiring minds want to know

It is an impressive news filter. As long as you can tell what is opinion and what is
reasonably factual.
I think everyone is constantly being trained to tell what is trolling and what is at least
sincere if not true.
I like hearing people who don't agree with me. It is too easy to only get input from
people who are similar to you.
You have to remember that just being able to use a computer and come here is a filter
in a big way.
I know lots of people who would be too upset and go away quickly when everyone did
not confirm their prejudices.

I was telling my husband about the rocket fuel being stolen and he asked where the hell I heard that, since he watches the news all the time when he gets off work. I said RT of course.

Me too.

I love a good debate. You can learn alot from people with an opposite view.... (as long as they aren't airheads )

My mother calls to tell me my grandma died and I say, "Yeah Right! Do you have a link?"

Actually RT is my SECOND choice for breaking news. There is a good 15 minute lag here and the coverage is somewhat sparse.
But at least the editorial is more diverse.

"My mother calls to tell me my grandma died"

I didn't know how to tell you about your grandma.

Well you should have KRS cause the line was busy for 6 months before mom got through.

*just kidding* Loved my grandma. She had a long and beautiful life.
