WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush personally asked Senate
Majority Leader Tom Daschle Tuesday to limit the congressional
investigation into the events of September 11, congressional and White
House sources told CNN.

The request was made at a private meeting with congressional leaders Tuesday
morning. Sources said Bush initiated the conversation.

He asked that only the House and Senate
intelligence committees look into the potential
breakdowns among federal agencies that could
have allowed the terrorist attacks to occur,
rather than a broader inquiry that some
lawmakers have proposed, the sources said

Tuesday's discussion followed a rare call to
Daschle from Vice President Dick Cheney last
Friday to make the same request.

"The vice president expressed the concern that a
review of what happened on September 11
would take resources and personnel away from
the effort in the war on terrorism," Daschle told
reporters.

But, Daschle said, he has not agreed to limit the
investigation.

Why would a president have any qualms about a full investigation into 9-11? Unless there was something to hide? It appears to be a request for a bipartisan cover-up to me. He doesn't have to ask that of the repug team because he knows they'll play along.

I wonder if that's what the families of the victims would want? Shouldn't an investigation into how they missed this be a first priority?

They're concerned that such an investigation would take resources away from the war effort? What bull! It seems to me that if they could figure out how it was done and how it was not seen coming then they'd be making very positive preventative steps in the 'war effort' by possibly preventing a further need for that effort. But that would require that they have a sincere desire to stop this crap, and clearly they don't.

Absolutely!

By analyzing what all went wrong is the best way to fight the "war". How can you prevent anything if you don't know what to prevent?

ABUSE OF PRESIDENTIAL POWER!!!

Bush's asking them to cover up the investigation is linked to that new book and many revelations of what Bush was up to this last year before the 9-11 attacks. Congressional investigators will indeed make the connection between Bush and his arrogant stand to attack Afghanistan and Afghanistan's pre-emptive response against us. That's what he and the GOP are afraid of. They are afraid that the American People will learn of Bush's part and that will be the end of their reign of terror here in the USA.
