According to the Washington Post, the IRS has paid out over $30,000,000 in non-existent "slavery" tax credits over the past two years. Several IRS employees applied for and received the refunds and one is under investigation for helping to process the fraudulent claims. Over 100,000 people applied for the credit, with many getting $43,209. The depths of ineptitude to which our government agencies sink is mind-boggling. I am surprised the WTC terrorists who posthumously got their visas recently did not get the refund checks as well!
I can understand some tax payers being duped by this ploy since this scam has been worked for some time, but IRS employees? (I don't know why this should be surprising because you can call the IRS three times and get three different answers to your question.)

saabsister- thanks for the link! Not everyone was "duped", however. Many heard about this and did it on their own without paying a "fee", including some IRS employees. The IRS is apparently going to try to recover these funds and many will be losing their homes as they assuredly have spent the money.
