I saw this posted elsewhere and thought it interesting enough to bring here. It is an article about the death of BinLaden published in the Arabnews.

I thought they were talking more a political death than his real death.Although they did mention that he might really be dead they also seemed to think that it didn't matter if he was dead or alive as he has been rendered impotent by the actions of the USA.
I personaly do not think that bombing the Afghanies was enough to do all that but I wonder if some in the Arab world really do believe this.... or is it designed to lull the west into a sense of having accomplished what we set out to do?

Hi bunni & rawbunzel! If he's really dead (as in coins on the eyes), then why are there still 7000 U.S. troops still in Afghanistan?

That's a really strange news site. I couldn't find out anything about its owners/sponsors. I read quite a bit on the site and most of the featured political articles seem to have almost a pro-Western slant, not the viewpoints that I would expect from what I know or have heard about the Saudis, but the site also has a section with a list of articles from other arab publications which present the views that I would expect.
But as to the article. The writer asserts that bin Laden died on Dec. 5. If that is true and our government learned it, that could explain why the rhetoric from Washington switched from its previously primary focus on bin Laden to freeing the Afghans from the Taliban and eliminating al Quaeda. There was much discussion about that reversal in emphasis at the time. If that is what happened, the administration could have feared that the knowledge of his death could have diminished the fervor at home some. Makes for interesting speculation.
As you point out, rawbunzel, the story could well be propagandistic. The piece seems almost too smooth and too definite and somewhat obsequious. I question the assertion that bin Laden didn't want to provoke a war and thought that America would back down. I've heard that said a lot, but I don't buy it. I tend to think the opposite.

Hi Antiquary! That's funny. It is sort of just-what-you-want-to-hear-style reporting. Maybe they interpret what they think the U.S. is saying, then they rip it apart in the "real" section.

That site looks a lot like an intellignece operation
at one point the USA Cia had these Huge condoms made up marked USA size Small and were actually going to air drop them on Cuban troops to demoralize them.
Fortunatly I was able to get a few of them so me and others here could avoid unwanted pregnancies.
