How do they get there? Saddam, the Ayatollah, Baby Doc Duvalier, Ferdinand Marcos, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, etc.,... don't they show any signs of being out to lunch before they get into power?

Sure they do. Just not everyone sees it so they get into power one way or another. Maybe they rig an election or something.

There are typically three personality types in a society, in my book.

The first are those who are followers and wish to be led. Those people expect someone to take care of them and to raise them all of their lives. This class has only one focal point of their being: themselves.

Then there are those who manipulate and are control freaks and they have no conscience. They fear being controlled and so, are controllers instead.

Then there are those who are neither leaders nor followers: anarchists. Having a conscience, they spread their concern towards everyone else. They tend to resist authoritarian types and willfull blind followers alike.

The interaction is fairly simple: the more that the followers expect to be taken care of; especially in the mental department; e.g. making decisions for themselves, educating themselves, etc, the more ruthless that their leaders become. Were it not for the third segment of society who dislikes both of these two, the followers would be glad to be abject slaves and the leaders happy to oblige them in slavery.

You can see this playing out here in America or any society.

Politicians want the job that controls like a pedophile wants to work in day care. And for similar reasons.

A unique observation, gravid.

If you haven't enjoyed a meal in sometime, with no real prospect of finding one and then someone provides you nourishment. You don't care what they have to say as long as the nourishment is continually provided.

The more irrational and erratic their behavior, the greater the chances that some of the weaker-willed followers will begin to associate a divine plan to the leader's person and/or leadership. That's usually the signal that burnt offerings and economic reversals are imminent.

Yes! The weaker willed followers as they grope in the darkness of ignorance must look forward to a Kingdom on earth while we cope with George Bush and imminent economic reversals. Amen.

"QUESTIONABLE MOTIVES"
The US didn't start it. They have never ever backed up, funded, supported, bank rolled or dealt in any way with SAdam Hussein (especially in the supply of chemical weapons- Just ask Rumsfeld)
They had no involvement with Suharto, Pinochet, the Argentine junta, El Salvador, Nicuragua, Colombia, Venezuala and never did illegally bomb the hell out of Cambodia or Laos.
They don't trade with murderous regimes like China, or oppressive states like Saudi Arabia. They have never supported corrupt governments like the shah of Iran, or pre-Castro Cuba.
No wonder the thinking world questions the US motives and that of the West in general."
