There was a high level Iraqi defector, one fully aware of Iraqi weapon status, who reported that Iraq had destroyed ALL of it's weapons of mass destruction soon after first being directed to do so. Newsweek published his story but their article was quickly denied by the administration and never got any play in US media. It's notable that the defector was quickly killed upon his return to Iraq, hardly something that would be done to someone who had carried out a mission of disinformation.

Was this report denied because to verify it removes the reasons for the pending attacks upon Iraq?

Here's the ORIGINAL story from Newsweek,
it has some things in it that Alter.net conveniently left out:

http://www.msnbc.com/news/876128.asp#BODY

Here's an excerpt too:
"Kamel said Iraq had not abandoned its WMD ambitions. The stocks had been destroyed to hide the programs from the U.N. inspectors, but Iraq had retained the design and engineering details of these weapons. Kamel talked of hidden blueprints, computer disks, microfiches and even missile-warhead molds. “People who work in MIC [Iraq’s Military Industrial Commission, which oversaw the country’s WMD programs] were asked to take documents to their houses,” he said. Why preserve this technical material? Said Kamel: “It is the first step to return to production” after U.N. inspections wind down."

=======================================================================================
Unless I missed it, I never saw mentioned in this article that he said ALL WOMD had been destroyed.....

There's no doubt that Iraq destroyed a lot of weapons (the UN was there making sure they did) but if they had destroyed them ALL the UN wouldn't still be finding them. And a few hundred inspectors could never find and destroy them all. It will literally take an army to do so...OURS.

Oh, and he was probably killed by Saddam because he told us all this stuff, ya think?

Yep...I agreed with that. He did the same thing to his two son-in-laws after they talked about the weapons he still had. And then they were told they could safely return home. He killed them immediately upon their return.
