Can someone with experience in statistics please tell me how many volunteer workers it would take to conduct a grass roots exit poll to double check the voting machines and have statistical accuracy?

Exit polls are very inaccurate because they involve human behavior.

I live in California and I remember when former Los Angeles mayor Tom Bradley ran and lost the race for governor in 1982 & 1986. In his last run for governor the exit polls all had it a dead heat but in the end he only got something 37% of the vote. ( Bradley was the Democrativ Party candidate in a traditionally Demo state )

What happened? Bradley was a black man and many of the people questioned in the exit polls lied and said they voted for him when many of them actually didn't. Were many of the exit poll takers black and the white voters were being nice and said they voted for Bradley?
