I read an article (in People magazine) about Roy Horn, from Siegfried & Roy. Siegfried told an audience, at a cancer fund-raiser, that Roy suffered a stroke, or a series of strokes, and the tiger was trying to get him off the stage after sensing this. The article went on about these 2 men, and I couldn't help but get a sense of the great love and respect they share for each other. I hope he gets better soon.

Yeha, he said a lot of stuff to that effect right after the attack. I honestly think he made the whole thing up to keep the tiger from being destroyed. They really love those tigers and would never want to see them hurt.

The tiger was stressed out and attacked out of instinct. You can train them all you want, but that's what tigers DO... It's in their nature.

How is Roy doing? I haven't heard anything recently.

They are just as irrational about these cats as an old lady about her fru-fru dog. The difference is the consequences are harsher with a 400 lb tiger than an akle nipper.

Seigreid seems to be changing his story - first the Tiger was just trying to help Roy after he tripped. The stroke story is a reach, the strokes were the result of loss of blood to the brain due to the gash in his neck.

Last I heard Roy was nearing a release fom the California hospital he was transferred to.

I have to agree with you Krafty - these two definitely seem to have an amazing relationship, if I remember correctly, it's been nearly 40 years since they first met.

I have to admire their commitment to one another. Too bad we can't all find the same thing. Even life-long friends are harder to come by. A sign of the times.

In the article, Siegfied said that the puncture wound in Roy's neck was 1/4" deep. He said tigers teeth are like ice picks and would have made a 6" puncture wound if the tiger (Montecore) was really attacking him. Personally, I have mixed emotions about their tiger show, but it sounds plausible.

As far as Roy's condition, it just states that he is still in critical but stable condition.

You're right, Fenix & Cheryl. We should all be so lucky to find a friend like these guys have.

I sincerely doubt the "tiger was helping him off-stage" story I also doubt the wound was only 1/4" deep, as reports showed he lost massive amounts of blood.

However, if the tiger had really meant to kill him, he would have been dead almost immediately--tiger teeth are about 3-4" long and the human throat is very flimsy.

Since only the tiger knows its motives, we'll never know what actually happened.

I always kind of like it when I read about circus animals stomping their handlers....
