I'm planning an interfaith wedding and would like the officiant to be able to explain the breaking of the glass to the congregation. Two explanations that I"ve heard are: 1) to remind us of the destruction of the Temple, and 2) as a reminder of the frailty of life and love. Are there any others?

It's a conspiracy of stemware merchants.

CC5 - Here's but one website that can be found by doing a 'google' search that speaks to the Jewish traditions.

Replay....that's good!

However, having just done the day's dishes, I've decided that the custom is a symbolic nose-thumbing at dish washing.

Linda....thanks for the tip.
