This is pretty far off topic, but the folks here have a WIDE range of experiences, so I thought I'd mention it. A friend recently suggested that I volunteer for the Big Brother program, and the more I think about it, the more fun it sounds.
Has anyone here volunteered to be a Big Brother or Big Sister?
What's involved in getting started? I know the volunteers are screened, but how much of a pain the butt is that? How does the scheduling work- do you do something with the child every day, once a week, or just whenever? Do they try to match you up with a little person living nearby or could he be way across town?
I've never heard a horror story, but you never know!

I've had friends, most not married or partnered, who were big brothers and big sisters. They claimed it was verrrry rewarding. I congratulate you for even thinking of doing it. Let us know if you do go ahead with it and what your experience is, please.
